We were lucky to get here during puffin season (May to August) just before the puffins and other sea birds were said to be leaving again. It was amazing to hear and watch the hundreds of birds pirching on the rocks and cliffside with the free binoculars and the telescope the staff had set up. Also the volunteers were friendly and invested in telling you all about the birds. (Shoutout to Johnny for the great conversation!) Only downside was that we consider the entry of 9£ p.p. a little too much for what you get. Especially if you're dependent on the puffin bus that collects you again after an hour and if the weather like during our visit is rainy and stormy, so that you can't even stay that long on the viewing platform without freezing and getting drenched. But if you're on Rathlin Island and interested in sea birds it's worth checking out!

After arriving at Rathlin, you can get paid bus service to West Lighthouse (no fixed time, but usually coincides with arrival of tourists via ferry) or can walk to the lighthouse as well. At the West lighthouse and sea bird centre, you can get to stay for about an hour's time (if you went by bus) and enjoy the incredible views of sea birds on the cliff and the inside of the light house itself. Toilet facilities and tea/coffee available on site. 8 GBP per adult for entrance, accept both cash and card.

Bus trip return to the West lighthouse & Bird Sanctuary is £5 return from the Island harbour, the driver was happy to pick us up when we flagged him down near the restaurant area. Trip takes about 20 minutes to the Lighthouse & Bird Sanctuary, amazing amount of species of birds to view with free binoculars to loan to view the birds including the beautiful Puffins, all staff are friendly and so chatty with a vast knowledge of the birds for us to learn.

Great place, I really recommend it. Nice service, staff, helpful, greetings to the gentleman who was at the table with the binoculars and the bus driver, thank you for the ride and information. About the island, it was so great that I am already preparing the next trip. There are a lot of great places on the island. I think one day is not enough to see the whole island with bird watching and see other wonderful places. It is the first place where I have seen and been able to observe puffins. One of my favorite places. Oh, and the last ferry from the island departs at 5 pm. Cheap return tickets, probably around...
