Absolute gem of a place. Can be steep to climb but very much worth it. The views from the top is great here especially at sunrise and sunset respectively. You can see Manchester, Cheshire and counties further away from here. The shortest route to get to the summit is via Knowl Top Lane, but there is no parking there. It is a nice but longer walk from Dovestone/Bin Green car park or you can park closer to Greenfield and then walk up. A good pair of walking boots/shoes would be necessary. It can be relatively windy and cold at the top depending on the time of the year.

Bloody hard climb up to reach the top but gives up some amazing views. We walked from Dovestone Holiday Park via Hollins Rd and up from the left hand side, which is quite steady until the last 300m which is hard going. The Monument is to Commemorate the fallen from the local area in WW1 and WW2 and is in need of a bit of restoration which I hope it gets as we need to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in protecting the Country.

Quite a steep walk to get to the monument (there was an easier route we didn't know about) but what a view when you get there!!! Luca, our 12 year old lab managed it! The monument is magnificent, yes it could do with a clean maybe but considering where it stands, we thought it was awesome and a great acknowledgement/tribute to the local heroes who gave their lives. Thank you!

I'm not a seasoned walker, not anymore that is. I'm an out of shape man in my 40s. On my recent trip back to my home village I decided it would be nice to walk my daughter up here and let her appreciate one of the best views of Greenfield, Uppermill and beyond that I know. The walk was not easy and I questioned my own sanity on the way. But, on reaching the top of the hill, you're greeted with a view that no picture truly captures.

The monument atop the hill commemorates those from Saddleworth that gave their lives during the Great War and World War 2. The balance of energy and elation on successfully scaling the hill with the sobering tone of a memorial is an interesting one, but one that after many dozens of visits I will never appreciate less.

If you're in Saddleworth and in decent walking shape, then I highly...
