Stepper Point — Attraction in Padstow

I went overnight tent camping at Stepper Point as one of my summer camp experiences around 1967 or so. The pictures are still as I remember it all those years ago. As the house we were staying in was in Polzeath, straight across Padstow Bay, we had arranged to light a fire big enough for those staying at the house to see. When they saw it, they were supposed to flash car headlights. Just as we set the fire in a rock wall, a guided lifeboat tour came around Stepper Point and we waved enthusiastically. However, this was interpreted as “Help!!!”

During the night, a strong gale force wind whipped up and shredded one of the tents, resulting in those campers piling into the other tents. Fantastic Headland and view point at the mouth of the Camel Estuary. Views across to Polzeath and Pentire Point and to Trevose Head in the other direction. Close to the NCI watchtower.
