Wow, What a difference a year makes! We've been coming to the farm for years as Rattler is my favourite drink and over the years i have become an unofficial ambassador for the drink. Sadly last year I had to leave a negative review as over the years the farm gave you less and less for your high admission fee. This year that has all changed!
Your standard admission now includes access to all areas, including the bottling plant which in previous years you had to pay extra for. They have also gone back to how they used to operate with the restaurant as you can eat for free, whereas last year you had to pay admission if you just wanted to eat. When it says access all ares they really mean access all areas which includes the animals, tasting and also the celler and distillery which again used to be a paid extra.
New for this year they also have the new press facility which you can visit that then leads to the bottling plant where you can see the process actually working from press to bottle. They have made a nice little Rattler themed rest area with a self operating surf simulator which is super fun.
Just to be clear that the guided tours and tractor rides are still paid extras, but if you don't choose this you are only missing out on the ride and someone talking you round. You still get equal access to all areas on a standard admission. Just remeber to bring your ID!!!
Well done Healeys for listening to your customers and creating the perfect day out. Please don't go back to your old ways of giving less for more as you are now on a roll offering what you do. In fact I think you will make more money this way and also more positive memories.
They also offer a very generous 50% blue light discount on admission. There was 7 of us which would of cost over £100 but thanks to the discount we got access to all areas for £40. Definitely worth it! For those who don't get blue light discount, they still offer a 20% online booking discount.
If I ever moved to Cornwall then Healeys would be the first place I hand in my CV as the staff are amazing and you could tell they felt like part of a family and not a company that treats their staff like...
Read moreA great day out for the whole family! It's so much more than a cider factory. There's a large open courtyard with a tractor in the middle, which the kids played on/around for hours whilst we relaxed at the restaurant. The food choices are good and they even had gluten free & vegan options. Slightly on the pricey side but everyone enjoyed their meal.
There's an animal section with a shire horse, goats and pigs, alongside peacocks and a beautiful (and relatively tame) chicken that roam the grounds. The kids loved them.
There's also a jam and chutney tasting room where they make all their own produce - the kids loved tasting all their sweet options. I liked the strawberry and chilly jam! Quite unusual!
There's a self-guided tour of the history of cider making with videos that are also suitable for children to keep them engaged. That experience culminates with a diverse wine, cider, brandy, gin and soft drinks tasting, where you can try everything! The apple juice and other flavoured juices were great so the kids could join in. In the same room as the tasting they have another tractor, a surf board, and pretend apples - all of which kept the kids entertained whilst we enjoyed the alcoholic samples (even though there were fake apples flying around, the staff were fine with it as long as the kids put them back after).
The tractor ride was good fun, with an audio tour covering the history of the place which was really interesting. Again they also thought of the kids and provided pictures of animals that they had to look out for and tick off on their leaflets.
Was also fascinating to see a working factory where they were actively bottling up cider and apple juices.
We wrapped up the day with cookies for the little kids and vegan cream teas for the big kids, which were delicious!
The only negative was that we promised the kids ice cream, but when we went back to get them, they were closed. I think the ice cream section closes at around 4pm so be aware.
All in all we spent about 5 hours pottering about and...
Read moreA Taste of Cornish Charm and Cyder at Healeys!
Our visit to Healeys Cyder Farm was an absolute delight for the whole family, offering a wonderful blend of education, entertainment, and delicious treats. I was worried we would struggle to fill a lot of the day up with the visit, which included a 5 and 3 year old, but we were all very much entertained throughout.
We opted for the Cydermaster Pass, which was excellent value and gave us access to so much. We particularly enjoyed the self-guided tour, which took us through the press house, showcasing how apples are transformed into their famous cyder, and the fascinating museum, where we learned about the history of cyder making and the farm itself. Seeing the distillery and cellars where the magic happens was also incredibly interesting.
Of course, no visit to Healeys would be complete without a tasting! We were amazed by the vast array of cyders, wines, spirits, and even juices and preserves available to sample. The knowledgeable staff in the tasting room were fantastic, guiding us through the different flavours and telling us about the unique characteristics of each. For the children, the fresh apple juice was a huge hit, and we certainly didn't leave empty-handed from the farm shop, stocking up on some delicious jams and, of course, a few bottles of Rattler! One particular favourite was the Cherry Vanilla jam, unbelievable 😍
A real memory-maker was the vintage tractor ride through the sprawling orchards. It was a charming way to see the farm and learn about the different apple varieties.
Healeys Cyder Farm offers something for everyone, whether you're interested in the production process, enjoying some family fun, or simply want to relax with a refreshing drink in a beautiful setting.
One tip, book online in advance for 20% off, but also use code BDOC10 for an additional 10% off the pass and the...
