I wasn't quite sure what to expect as I navigated a sharp bend into the ample car parking at this site. A friendly welcome from the lady taking the more than reasonable fees Historic Hous memberships get free admission) and then a wander round the lake in a clockwise direction. Younare deliberately guided in this direction. Fairly recent restorations of woodland and a historic Turner view greeted me, and you could ooh and aah at the rock formations on the far shore. A quick amble round the lake on a pleasant walk then the proper journey began, with the contorted trees clinging to the rocks, roots anchoring them and adding to a Lord of the Rings type scene. Rocks in all directions, smoothed by time and simply massive, with wide bowls of woodland kissed by the sun with dappled sun glaring through. I was stunned. Some of the reviews seem to have missed the point that a private landowner has bothered to restore a woodland, part of heritage so easily lost, and open it for people.to see.... I for one was immensely impressed at what has been done. Some of the trees are just so majestic and how on earth they thrive in this area is part of the joy of visiting. Lovely to see a mix of young and old enjoying what is a one to two hour visit to enjoy and absorb the woods and the rocks. What a pity I can't leave a...

£5 per person only two of us we have two adult sons above 16 so had they come it would have been over priced for the visit. Be careful if you have a big car the car park has a very tight entrance and I wouldn’t advise going when it’s wet or recently rained as I could imagine the car park being super muddy. You have to walk down a row of steps and a slope to get to the lake. No good if you find such things a challenge and therefore a no go if your disabled. Once down the stairs and slope the lake is beautiful and the rock formations so interesting. The paths around the lake have been left natural and therefore alittle rocky or muddy at times, and also can be difficult to follow at times. So I guess that’s part of the charm to it the explore on natural paths. The rocks formations lovely for kids to explore. I really think they should make the paths better and more accessible for all and then perhaps allowing less able customers to enjoy it. Do think it is over priced personally but...

Please be aware, this places costs £5 PER AUDULT! there's no indication of the charge until you're at the entrance. The car park is very "hit and miss" as you end up just parking where ever you can. In terms of the rocks, they're interesting and worth seeing, but not enough in my opinion to warrant the cost they're charging. There's no marked out routes, and you simply have to wander around, without really knowing where you're going.

I have to question what the entry charge is for, and there appears to be zero outlay from an upkeep perspective.

Also, please be aware that parts can be VERY steep. I saw a couple of pensions pay to enter and quickly gave uo as they were physically unable to do anything.

Overall, I personally wouldn't recommend, as the cost...

Absolutely stunning location and a lovely walk! And is dog friendly. Rated 3 stars due to the a few reasons. The walking routes are not clearly marked however there is a map but we didn’t find this until the end. You can see where others have walked but there are no “paths” so not mobility friendly at all. £10 entry (£5 per person ) kids are free. I understand this contributes to the up keep of the area however every bin was over flowing…there are zero facilities once you are there….the car park isn’t great on wet days it just felt some what over priced. They DO NOT TAKE CARDS it’s cash only on entry so we had to leave to find a cash machine (Sainsbury’s towards Harrogate is the nearest) Would be nice to see a few picnic benches and some signage on the routes
