Okay so a rainy Saturday decided to give Oakham Treasures a go, we went with an expectation of a expense and poor value cash grab of a retail attraction- we were 100% wrong and apologise for our pre defined rhetoric and low expectations.
We started at restaurant with a expectation of poor food and high cost- we were wrong as the food was superb and reasonably priced for a huge gammon and chips.
So preconceived ideas we expected expensive and limited collection, we were wrong and we would like to apologise for assuming usual commercial ripoff.
Enter what is obviously a private collection with a huge amount of time and care with layout, descriptions and unbelievable attention to detail. This isn’t a money grab- it is someone who lives and breaths their infectiously interesting passion.
As we walked around it wasn’t 100% apparent what we could touch in form of books etc, however we were respectful of collection and only touched what was obviously signed we could touch ( bar a steam engine model with push button.)
Sure there were cctv cameras, but we believe a little more guidance on what we may and may not touch ( example Motorola phone in box on floor)
While 99% sure we saw owner cooking our chips, we would like to thank Owners/family and staff for an AMAZING day simply WOW WOW WOW and super value without...

We just of stumbled across this by chance and I'm glad we did, it was hot and I'd just been dragged around a busy national trust.. we came here and it was lovely and quiet and cool! We didn't bring our kids, I imagine it would of been a nightmare as lots of things they would of wanted to touch and probably would then break.. Some things brought back memories and others were just good curiosities. Its a lot bigger than I thought it would be, and I love some of the things have the information about where they came from, though we still had ALOT of questions about how sooo much has been collected 😂 I would totally come back here for a longer look, if ever visiting in the area again.. make a proper trip of it instead of stumbling into it late in the day. We signed the...
Read moreOakham Treasures is what the name suggests, a treasure trove of memorabilia of everyday items from our past. These items include tractors, road signs, mobile phones, chocolates and sweets and even old street vending machines used to dispense those chocolates.
There is also mock ups of an old grocery and pharmacy store that is an excellent display item.
There is a cafe on site that produces excellent food at very reasonable prices with generous portions. Relatively speaking, drinks are cheap too; at time of writing, an Americano cost just £1.30p. The cafe, however, is only open two days a week for food; Tuesday's, which is the day I visited, and I believe Thursdays, but check the latter.
If you want to see a history of everyday items from our past then I highly recommend a visit. Everything is accessible for the disabled.
The museum is closed Sundays...
