The café was more of a snack hut with a very poor selection. All ice creams were advertised on the Roskilly board, only after purchasing did we realise half of the ice creams bought were non-dairy ice cream by a different brand. No sandwiches available, only brownies, caramel shortbread and flapjacks available so if you're expecting a café for lunch as we were, take a picnic.
There was also only one toilet available, the accessible one, in the name of covid safety measures.
However, it was very busy when we visited and meant there was a queue across the courtyard the entire time we were there.
Having a non-stop queue for more than an hour while we were there meant that the staff never did get to go in and sanitise it which was supposedly the aim of only having one available.
It's surely safer to have both toilets available to reduce the risk of catching covid whilst standing in a queue for 30 minutes? Aside from the fact that anyone who actually needs an accessible toilet in a hurry due to any medical needs can't actually use it because there's a 30 minute wait.... Altogether, with the poor selection in the 'cafe' and the bare minimal facilities, it just seemed as though covid was being used as an excuse for laziness rather than them implementing actual scientific,...
Read moreLovely cycling route, but avoid south-east side of The Loe with smaller children.
The bridleways from Lakeside on Porthleven Rd, all the way to the Loe Bar, are bike friendly, becoming a little more challenging as you approach the sea. However, once crossing the Loe Bar and re-joining the bridleway, the cycling becomes a lot more difficult and is not suitable for children. Plenty of the area on the SE side of the lake is overgrown and is lacking maintenance, but is fine for walkers.
I would have loved to have seen a more detailed cycling route on the website instead of just the marked bridleways. A much more appealing ride would be to ride from the Fairground Car Park (3PW9+PC Helston) to Bar Lodge (3PC2+RR Helston) and then return on...
Read moreThis area has stunning scenery & amazing woodland walks, Loe Pool & the sand Bar very photogenic, my advice is firstly the carpark at Penrose is small, so be prepared to park elsewhere! There are two further carparks on the outskirts of Porthleven one NT the other local but both free but without any attached facilities. My last advice is that NT have removed a bridge for apparently safety reasons but not marked this on website or noted at cafe!!!!! On the Penrose map the removed bridge crossed the river Cober by School Wood, & then led up to some mine ruins.(or vice versa) The next crossing point is now Helford! This lengthens the walk considerably depending on route &...
