Visited today for the first time...19th August 2025.. Spotted a few Clouded Yellow Butterflies... Plovers and Dunlin and several Black Tailed Godwit and a Curlew... but the most amazing sighting, was what we first thought were two Peregrines, hunting over the estuary, which turned out to be Hobbies, but that wasn't what was amazing..Because while watching the Hobbies, I turned around to see two Kestrels, one hovering which was then dive bombed by another... Have seen Hobbies before, but never seen two apparently hunting as a pair and the appeared to be hunting Black Tailed Godwits, which would normally be too large for a Hobby... They failed of course, but seeing two Hobbies and two Kestrels, hunting so close together, was probably a once in a lifetime thing and I doubt I will ever see them doing that again... We also spotted a Peregrine Falcon far off in the distance and a Marsh Harrier... Farlington Marshes proved to be an amazing place and considering it was August, I can only imagine how many more species will visit the area, when many migrants return to our shores... Thankfully, not only is the nature reserve, very well maintained, dogs off leads are not allowed and many areas are fenced off... Farlington Marshes, despite it's proximity to heavy traffic, is one of many reserves, that we should be proud of and one we should all do our best to protect.... Sadly despite the rules about all dogs being kept on leads, there are still plenty of selfish, ignorant and uncaring dog owners, who while bagging it seem incapable of binning it... They know who they are and if any of them are reading this review, all I can say is you should never be allowed to own a dog and should also be banned from leaving you home... Dogs are not to blame, it is their irresponsible owners, who do not deserve to have responsibility for any pet, in fact I don't think such people should have responsibility for any children they...
Read moreVisited 5+yrs ago now. But it was great & hopefully still is. An absolutely georgous place to go, if nearby take a look & see for yourself, what the wonders of an afternoon of nature can do for you. You may well just be greatfully surprised, as I was when a friend showed "The Marshes" to me!🥰💚Lovely scenery, lots of wildlife to see especially birds for all those bird watchers of you! They even have signs up telling you what to look out for where & when, I love it up there, brilliant on a nice day with your camera, there's even a snack wagon at the beginning of the car park too,in case you feel a little peckish (excuse the pun!) Only one thing, I haven't come across on my visits is there toilet facilities-would be good - or maybe I've just missed them?Above all a big thumbs...
Read moreFarlington Marshes is a very well maintained and picturesque nature reserve where the walk around it is very flat and easy and there is so much to see in a relatively small area. The walk around the sea wall takes around 1:30 minutes if taken at a slower place, and is an amazing place for birdwatchers, but you can also see fish, rabbits, and seals. There are also beautiful panoramic views of Portsmouth, Portsdown Hill, and Hayling Island, as well as Langstome Harbour. In winter and colder times make sure to bring warm clothing as it can get very...
