We called Charles to see if he could fit our Sea Cadet unit in for a visit. He made a couple of calls and was able to fit us in, even opening up early for us. He was extremely passionate about the building and about the museum. We saw many artifacts from WW1 and the volunteers knowledge was fantastic. They guided tour was carried out in a very professional manner and was done at a level for the Cadets to understand with snippets for the adults. We would certainly recommend visiting Charles and his volunteers. Would definitely be going back. Well done Charles and your team for keeping this history alive

We‘ ve been here in the Afternoon. It was a great trip in WWI History with exellent Explanations. They love what they do and let you be Part of it. If you are interessted in warhistory and your are in Portsmouth don‘ miss it. I‘ s free entrance but don‘ t forget to feed the „Tirpitz-Pig“

WW1 Remembrance Centre, Hilsea – A Must-Visit Tribute to Real Lives

This museum is an absolute standout. Housed in a Grade II listed building that feels like a time capsule, it’s run entirely by volunteers who care deeply about preserving history with integrity and heart.

We spent over two hours here and were fully absorbed. Our guide was outstanding—captivating, passionate, and deeply respectful in the way he retold the stories. Charles was also present, adding warmth and welcome.

It’s free to visit, with free parking, and the experience is quietly powerful. Some parts are quite heart-rending, especially when the stories hit close to home. The exhibits are rich with artefacts and emotion, curated with care and clarity.

It’s not just a museum—it’s a living tribute. Totally...

Took my two boy

s to the Remembrance Centre on Sunday, what a great time had by all staff were great and so much information to hand. We had a tour with the owner and also a chat with two of the staff concerning equipment of both British and German soldiers from WW1. Without people like this so much would be lost the photos and items on show is first class, entry and parking is free of charge but would be happy to pay. This place puts many places to shame and others could learn so much from this museum, i do hope Hampshire County Council and the lottery board help out with running costs if they don

t then they should. I will be back again with other members of my family and will have no issue with giving...
