In my historical county of Wiltshire there are so many places that you can go for lovely walks....I tend to research the area on Google Maps get in the car & go to explore this lovely countryside....So off we went about 30 minutes drive from where we live off on another adventure....The Devils Den is said to be what was once the entrance to a Neolithic Burial mound which is said was 230ft long,what happened to it I’m not sure,the cap stone that sits on top is said to weigh 17 tons can you believe that,it makes you wonder how they lifted it up there all those years ago...It just like the even larger stones of Stone Henge...So intriguing,how clever they were to build so many which are now historical sites in this...
Read moreWell bit of a tricky place to find. You turn of the A4 and go up this byway to a farm yard. On the other side of which is a steep grass road which takes you down to a gate. I had to go through the gate and past a herd of cows and a massive bull. As this is a footpath not sure why the massive bull was there. Come through the gate turn right past the bull and head to the other end where there is a board explaining the history. There is another gate there. The cows and bull follow you to the gate. Short walk on the other side is the Neolithic stone work which is in some grassland. It’s all free just...

Google took us to somewhere you can’t really park (though a kind stranger let us park on her driveway), and finding it wasn’t too easy as fences block the way and need climbing over, etc (not easy with a baby in a buggy and two young kids).
Cool when you get there though, and apparently there is a proper place to park cars, and we went home via a circular route which was easier terrain, but ended up confusing once over the main road, to find our way...
