Rye Harbour Discovery Centre is a fantastic information point that was funded two years ago by local residents. It is an amazing place where you can get some hot food, cakes and tea, learn some information about the area and buy some souvenirs. The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful. They called a local bike hire for us just to check that it was open!
The centre is located just a short walk from Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, making it the perfect place to stop for a break before or after exploring the reserve. There is a large car park next to the centre, making it easy to get there by car.
The centre is divided into two main areas: the exhibition area and the cafe. The exhibition area is full of information about the history and wildlife of Rye Harbour. There are interactive displays, photographs, and videos that will help you learn about the area.
The cafe is a great place to refuel after a walk in the nature reserve. They serve a variety of hot food, cakes, and drinks. There is also a small shop that sells souvenirs and gifts.
The staff at the centre are incredibly friendly and helpful. They are always happy to answer questions and give advice. They even called a local bike hire for us just to check that it was open!
Overall, Rye Harbour Discovery Centre is a fantastic place to visit. It is a great place to learn about the area, have a bite to eat, and buy some souvenirs. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rye Harbour.
Here are some additional things to note about the centre:
It is open from 10am to 4pm, seven days a week. Admission is free. There is a disabled toilet on site. There is a large car park next...
Read moreNice looking walk. It was windy, but worth the time. We went in to check it and found a very interesting section they have about the history on the geographical location and the change that have happened around the area. Also the fauna and the way it had evolved during the climate change. There is a kids section, where they can learn a few bits and bobs about nature. Around the middle section of the building they have a shop that supports the center and towards the r right hand side of the building there is a cafe. It has quite a few tables and chairs, and all of it it's surrounded by windows. To allow you bird watching, or any other nature watch. For this, they supply you with binoculars, which is a great touch. They have a ramp to access the centre, which is good for mobility impaired people. It is a bit of a walk from the carpark, but I guess the point of being there is not to see cars or other modes of transport apart from bicycles and skates. You can choose to walk another five more minutes, and this will get you to the pebbled beach opposite to Camber Sands beach. Great views!! We were lucky to see a massive display of people with very colourful kites in the distance too. We will be going again,...
Read moreLots of interesting books and a lovely cafe. The centre was built and run by Sussex Wildlife Trust. Expansive views across Rye Harbour nature reserve. Wheelchair ♿️ friendly. Carers, be prepared for about 1 Km walk from car park to the visitor centre, (and it's a walk that could be a bit exposed to the elements...for instance, today it was rather breezy.) Other than that, it's a great place to visit. For wheelchair users there's a decent path, and it's all on the flat. The cafe is wheelchair user accessible as it has a wheelchair ramp, and some room to manoeuvre a wheelchair in the cafe. There were several wheelchair users in (and near to) the cafe today. There is also a pleasant outdoor sitting area.😀 A safe place for children to cycle, with young families cycling around the...
