We are regular visitors at Ryton Country Pools for the simple reasons that we can take our lovely dog for a great walk and the kids can either take their bikes, scooters, walk or rent little go karts. Our visit today was only a short one (just over an hour) as we had my daughters friend with us and had an hour to kill before a birthday party. The kids all love the play park and the dog is able to walk off his lead and have a splash in the lake so he was happy too. The parking charges have gone up, but it is still only £3 for up to 2 hours. It is obviously more for longer but still only £4 for up to 4 hours which is incredibly good value for money for a family car. The kids played in the park, then enjoyed an ice cream. The dog enjoyed a walk and a swim and I managed to keep them all entertained and outside, away from computers and TVs by myself. If you are looking for a longer day out, pack a picnic and either make use of the many picnic tables or bring a blanket and make a day of it. There are open spaces for games, there is a miniature railway (check for open times of that though) and there are also activities on all year round for the kids to take part in. There are several walks to enjoy, again depending on how much time you want to spend there. I highly recommend for anyone with dogs or kids or even couples of all ages who just want to walk. You only pay the parking charges so a...
Read moreI have just bought the season ticket for the car park as it works out cheaper as I use this a lot during the summer. Harriet, my UNHINGED owner takes me for my daily walk (TECHNICALLY DRAGGING ME). I don’t get to decide where I go as I am normally the one you see being dragged around the pool, chasing ducks, trying to swim and then gets freaked out by the Massive dogs in the field next door (Harriet does not know what a horse is!!)
The staff in the Information very nice and helpful. Same about the cafe. The rangers were very helpful when I needed help about parking. Great for kids too. I have taken my son up there a few times and he enjoys it (Not when he’s holding Harriet)
I ride my bike there too and it offers a few routes. I did come a cropper as I went into the local woods (Offsite from Ryton Pool) and went on a bike path that got slimmer and slimmer the further I went and when I stopped because of the stinging nettles I could not turn my bike around. I had to reverse and now I have stung ankles as I wore shorts (NOT LYCRA).
It’s quiet and has plenty of stops and I’m sure people are not aware of how big that place is.

We arrived to find the car park beside the cafe was closed due to them laying new cement. There was no mention of this on the website. This meant we had to park down by the wooden train, which is a long way to walk if you have mobility issues. It was also very noisy!
The price of car park is £3.30 for up to 3 hours which is good value if you are staying for the full time, but expensive if you just want an hour.
We did not eat in the cafe but the prices of the ice creams were extortionate! I never mind spending more at places like this as its a captive audience but they are VERY overpriced here.
The play area by the cafe is great but despite being signs saying no dogs, there was a family taking a dog in the area. The dog in question was urinating on the children's play equipment, including in the sand pit! I mentioned this to someone in the cafe and they said "thanks for letting us know". We were still there for 30 mins after this, and the family with the dog were never confronted...
