The thought of a working farm in urban West Bromwich to me, seems a contradiction in terms, so I was pleasantly surprised after being invited to meet my Son and grand children there for a morning out. Situated at the side of Sandwell Valley, this is an absolutely brilliant, place to bring the kids, with all the usual farm animals there to meet and feed. Importantly there are numerous hand washing stations, with child height sinks, so the children can clean their hands after feeding. There are trails to walk, a huge sunflower field with numerous paths, outdoor play areas, with pedal cars, and an indoor natural play barn, for climbing, sliding and riding. I believe there is a small charge to use the equipment. Also situated in the play barn is a great little cafe, ( free to enter ) where you can relax with a coffee while the little ones enjoy themselves Toilet and baby changing facilities are also on hand. One of the simplest forms of play, both inside a barn and outside were huge stacked bales of straw, just made to clamber up. With a helping hand from Granddad, my grand children were up there on the bales, climbing, jumping, dancing, shouting, laughing just using their imagination and having a whale of a time. While keeping a watchfull eye on them, the joy on there faces was pure magic, and very heart warming. On the way out, we visited the farm shop, where you could stock up on favourites like eggs from the farm and honey from the farm bees. I also noticed locally made beer and various gifts. All in all it was a fantastic place to take young children, and I bet the kids fell asleep on...
Read moreWe took our 3 granchildren to Forge Mill Farm. The 2 ladies in the shop were lovely. We brought food so we could feed the goats, sheep un Ducks. We were just in time 2 see the baby chicks taken out their cage and the children were allowed 2 hold them. Was a lovely experience 4 them. After that we got 2 feed the baby lambs their bottles of milk. They were beautiful. Even our youngest grandaughter (9mths old) loved the baby lambs. She was very excited seeing them so close. Our other 2 grandchildren stroked the baby lambs. We saw different goats, alpacas. Beautiful horse. Cows, pigs.. In one big barn there were 2 small like bumper cars/trikes u do have 2 pay but they were safe and our 2 older grandchildren loved them. . We washed our hands went back through the shop. We paid 4 the childrens ice creams and 2 lattes. The lady named Julia was very helpful. (I use crutch 2 walk) she went 2 the machine and sorted out our lattes. I was very very greatful 4 her help. Lovely staff. We sat outside on benches. Watching our 2 grandchildren play on the little park. Enjoying the latte feeding our youngest grandaughter. Listening 2 birds and other animals in the short distant. It was beautiful. Then we went fed the geese, ducks and swans on the big pool. We had a good couple of hours at the farm. We enjoyed it so did our granchildren. It was a lovely day. We made lovely memories with our granchildren. . Lovely place and on our door step. Keep up the...
Read moreThis farm is fantastic for little kids. I'd go on a dry day although there are animals in a few barns so could still be good with a little rain. Loads of animals to see with goats and sheep that the kids can feed 1 80p bag was OK for 3 kids although 2 of mine were terrified so you might need to get more. Tractor rides were £1.50 extra each but worth it as we got to go through a field of sheep and then drove through the sunflower field which was really cool. You can walk through the sunflowers without the tractor ride. Only bad bit was the organisation with the sunflowers. There was a giant flag that said picking area in the sunflowers so you would think it was pick your own but if you ask the staff they say it isn't and they are confused why people pick the sunflowers. When you get to the shop though they have some pre-cut that you can buy at £1.50 a flower or £6 for 6 so you an pay for the ones you pick. Other bad-ish part is the park on the way in. It has one climbing frame and one slide that is more suitable for kids 7+ there is nothing for the smaller kids. The only way on the slide is a near verticle climbing wall with 4 steps to go 6ft high so near impossible for small ones. It ended up having a queue of parents having to lift their kids up to the slide which didn't let the parents...
