My mum and I visited this garden in mid-October, and there's no entrance fee required.

You can feel the love and care that has gone into the plants. Every plant is in great condition; some are a bit wilted, but they stand tall and strong.

We were fortunate to visit this time of year, as there were lots of apples on the trees and even more varieties available in the store.

Everything here is nice and tidy. It’s clear there’s a wonderful community supporting the garden, with about 80 volunteers who help maintain it. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Most importantly, this is a dog-friendly spot, so you can bring your dog on a short leash.

As for directions, I used Apple Maps, and it’s easy to miss the entrance. Once you arrive at the final destination on the map, you’ll see a sign stating that the gate closes at 4 PM on weekdays. We confirmed we were in the right place.

We will definitely...

What a 'gem' this restored walled garden is. It has been nurtured back to life by a dedicated group of volunteers, who are always ready to chat and answer questions. They grow 49 known varieties of apples, other fruit, veg and flowers which are for you to help yourself to, in exchange for a donation. If you become a member, for the small sum of £10 annually, you receive a 30% discount off Sutton Seeds for that year. A great bargain for us gardeners, and the money goes towards funding the upkeep. All surplus fresh produce is donated to local food banks. Older surplus go to the compost heaps, and a pig farm. Amisfield is free. Plenty of places to sit just to admire your surroundings, or to have a picnic. I only wish I lived close enough to...

Lovely volunteer run walled garden on the outskirts of Haddington. The gardens were looking very good when we visited in mid-august with a wide variety of perennials and shrubs on show. There is also an orchard, some open grass areas and a developing maze too. The volunteers and staff were very friendly and we had a nice chat with a number of them. The work they do here is very rewarding for them and also visitors too. A donation is welcome either at the small cabin on entry or can be done online. Well worth a visit to see the great...

We were fortunate enough to visit these beautiful gardens in June when the flowers were fresh and colourful. The planting is varied and inspired and we particularly liked the Catmint and Sweet William. The volunteers have done a fantastic job in restoring this large site and I am sure they appreciate donations from visitors towards their costs. They have obviously worked hard to ensure that it is accessible for all with flat wide paths for wheelchair/mobility scooter users. They also welcome dogs on leads. Well worth a visit.
