Fascinating place, very peaceful and quiet, allowing you to contemplate the sights it has seen. You can't get into it as it is in disrepair and is fenced off but you can get close enough to have a good look. The footpath/track to it is just past the community hall on the opposite side of the road. It will take you past some private cottages but there is a public footpath.
Interestingly (but such a shame), the nearby Iron Age brochs (Dun Troddan & Dun Grugaig) were partially dismantled to provide stone for these barracks.

A place like this did not get built without need. So when people tell you the cause of Jacobitisim ended on Culloden Moor, remind them that the British Army clamped down on Scotland with garrisons and guard post EVERYWHERE after that in an all out assault on Highland culture and language.
Bernera is one of the major ones, which should give you some idea of the importance of the area historically that doesn't exist now.
Interpretation boards would go some distance to sorting that out, but only if they tell the truth of the matter and not the accepted history which, always remember, is written...
