Bladnoch Distillery is most definitely back on the map! A worthy trek from Glasgow or Edinburgh through some of the most beautiful Glens and Lochs Scotland has to offer. The Galloway Ranges along the way provide pristine air and mesmerising views of some of Scotland’s most stunning National Parks; then comes Newton Stewart, a quaint town of about 800, impeccably preserved and a place Robbie burns wrote some of his most acclaimed works - I highly recommend a drop in to the Creebridge Hotel where great traditional haggis and whisky are to be had. A short 10 minute drive away is Bladnoch - a far cry from what it once was - impeccably renovated and reinvigorated to even greater heights then ever before! A stunning tour of the Distillery allowed a true understanding of how Bladnoch whisky is made, its history and where it’s heading in the future - and how promising it is! A stunning collection of lightly peated blends and single malts in light, fruity and sweet expressions to top it off! My favourite is the Samsara; a gold medal Californian red wine cask stunner! These are available to purchase in the new five million pound visitor centre with a great food menu to boot! Well done to David Prior on once again providing the angels (and public) with a superb quality drop! This is must do in the Scottish Lowlands. There is a fantastic local Gin Distillery close by called ‘Crafty Distillery’ for the gin lovers...
Read moreMy partner and I took a single cask tour conducted by Lily, who did a great job of taking us through some history before showing the group various stages of the whisky making process. Lily was very knowledgeable, and a couple visiting from Germany who were avid Scottish distillery visitors commented they have been on many distillery tours and learnt quite a lot from this occasion. I would have to say a small critique of the cafe. My partner ordered a sandwich, which was filled with crushed tomato and chickpeas..It tasted as though these two ingredients had been mixed together and put on the sandwich, which I suppose isn't too bad but it was plain Jane with no flavour.. no cumin, salt or pepper? Its a small minus on the experience where they dedicate so much time to the whisky tasting good I thought a small amount of flavour in the sandwich isn't too much to ask. lol this seems to have turned into a sandwich review! To end on a positive, the cake I ordered was massive, rich and full of flavour and the coffee was great! I would recommend a tour really enjoyed the tasting at the end again Lily was great also enjoyed the aspect of talking whisky with others...
Read moreAfter a 250 mile journey to Garliston I thought I'd kickstart the holiday with a trip to the nearest Distillery. When I pulled into the car park was thinking they must be busy as only 2 parking spaces free. Went into the visitors centre and read some of the history, looked at some of the Whiskies on display and thought I'd sample one or two before buying. When enquiring as to sampling some a man and young girl informed me they were really busy, obviously some Corporate Event as they were lining up glasses with samples in and covering them with pieces of card. The shop and visitors centre were empty as everyone on corporate event was in the Café. Didn't have this problem at the Talsker Distillery on Skye and it was manic and still got to sample a few. Shame as they missed out on relieving me of some of my hard earned cash taking presents home for family & friends including a few bottles for myself. Customer care zero, sales zero,...
