This 17th century doocot is in extremely good condition. The doocot is situated on castle hill in the village of Auldearn. It was presented to the National Trust for Scotland in 1947. The little building is not open to the public but you do get a nice view of the surrounding countryside. It is interesting to note that the Battle of Auldearn was fought in the fields nearby on the 9th May 1645. If you have an interest in local history it is well worth the short walk to see the doocot and read the information notice boards. There is no charge but you can leave a dination in the collection box.

I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here. We stopped by in passing. The door is locked so you can only look from the outside which shows you nothing and the information board is good but again, what once was there is no longer so nothing to see. The parking area is huge for seeing nothing lol. From the bottom of the road it looks like it's gated off but the parking area is to the right of the gate, not through it.

It's pleasant enough to visit if you are planning going onto somewhere else as you will only be at the Doocot for a few minutes. The doocot is locked and all there is to see is the history board and the lovely views...still worth a wee visit if like me you enjoy places steeped in history.
