This is a great community centre that has a gift shop, with a wonderful range of gifts and cards, a licensed cafe at the rear, that does a delicious lunch, cakes and drinks - I had baked potato that came with a wonderful salad - and then on various dates there is live entertainment. All this in a small community that sits in the Galloway Forest, so lots of places to go to after lunch Update: Sat outside, very pleasant, and interesting story about an unexpected flood in the building in 2017

After a great morning walking in the Galloway Forest, we called in at the CatStrand. Wow, what a gem of a place.its a gift shop with interesting books and art. But the best surprise is the cafe. Serving the best haggis and baked potato ever! We have called their butcher to buy more haggis. They have a nice selection of local beers to wash down a haggis lunch Also, check out their entertainment evenings. We will be back!

Popped in for lunch after a walk. Unexpectedly it is dog friendly here (they have two tables indoors, slightly separate to the café itself but can accommodate dogs in this area or the garden) They were very welcoming and even gave him a treat! Delicious human food too, a simple but homemade and warming menu.

The Catstrand is a phenomenon . It is sited in New Galloway, which lies in the Galloway Forest area of the South West of Scotland. Contrary to some address listings this place is NOT in Kirkudbrightshire, but in Dumfries and Galloway. New Galloway is situated at the Northern tip of Loch Ken, which has been a reservoir since the 1930's. Loch Ken itself provides a considerable number of water sporting activities including the brilliant Activity Centre for yachting, crazy floating slides, canoeing and a great deal more. A catstrand is a very small water course, and The Catstrand centre is sited on a catstrand, hence the name. It is an arts centre. It carries an art gallery, and photography exhibitions, plays, films, music concerts and more. Coffees, teas etc. are served, with cakes and similar. The staffing of The Catstrand consists of some very capable permanent staff and a great many volunteers. Over the past 10 years of its existence many top flight performers have performed here and there is a very exiting and full itinerary ahead. It is genuinely a wonderful place to visit, its shop is also not to be missed. We are very lucky to have The Catstrand and the very fine supportive community, which stretches far and wide. The incredible work that goes into the running and continuance of this place is not taken for granted, and the community will always work for its future and longevity, so, come and see...

We've been visiting CatStrand for a couple of years now. We've seen some great bands here, such as Blue Giant Orkestar and Henge, and various others. It's an excellent venue for live music - for some gigs the seats are folded away and there's room for dancing. For others, it's seated. Also have attended the Burns Night Supper which was a really good night out with live music. And all that great stuff, before even mentioning the café and the best scones I've had, ever (other cakes are available...). Then there are all the million-and-one other things that CatStrand organises and runs and develops, it is a really big asset to the community, thank you...

Local residents and visitors are fortunate to have such an important amenity in New Galloway. Catstrand functions as a vibrant centre for the arts with a full programme of events throughout the year. There is a café open from 11 till 4 each day offering tasty light meals and excellent coffee and cakes. There are attractive gift items in the adjacent shop and lots of information about the area useful to all who visit. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. I can't recommend this...
