I recently visited Gore Glen in Midlothian and was pleasantly surprised by the amenities and activities available. A must for country lovers. A great place for dog walking. One of the highlights of this location is the free car parking, which is a great convenience for visitors. However, it's important to note that there is a vehicle height restriction of 2.2 meters, so if you have a taller vehicle, you may need to make other arrangements.
The pathways in Gore Glen provide a wonderful opportunity to explore the woodlands, riverside, and ponds. I particularly enjoyed walking along the path that links Gorebridge and Arniston Estate, as it allowed me to immerse myself in the beautiful scenery of the area. It was refreshing to have access to such natural beauty and have the opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of the surrounding nature.
I discovered Gore Glen through the 'Explore Midlothian' walks guide, which described it as a worthwhile destination. After visiting, I can wholeheartedly agree with the guide's recommendation. The guide does a good job of capturing the charm and natural appeal of the area, making it an excellent resource for anyone looking to explore the region.
One of the standout features of Gore Glen is the range of special events and activities organized by the Ranger Service. This provides visitors with a unique and interactive experience, allowing them to connect more deeply with the nature and wildlife found in the area. It's evident that the Ranger Service is passionate about creating engaging and educational experiences, and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
During my visit, I also learned about the free resource boxes available from the Ranger Service. These boxes are filled with useful equipment for activities such as pond dipping, mini-beast hunting, and exploring the nature of the site. This is a fantastic resource for both individuals and families, as it allows for a more immersive and hands-on experience.
Additionally, I was impressed to learn about the free curricular based environmental education activities offered by the Ranger Service for schools and groups. This demonstrates a commitment to connecting young people with the natural world and providing them with valuable learning experiences. It's commendable to see such a proactive approach to environmental education in the area.
Overall, I highly recommend visiting Gore Glen in Midlothian. With its free car parking, beautiful pathways, and a range of activities organized by the Ranger Service, it's an ideal location to explore and connect with nature. Whether you're an individual, family, or part of a school or group, there is something for everyone to enjoy and learn from at...
Read moreWe hated it. Apart from it being very muddy, which can’t be helped, the paths were very narrow, the rugged steps up and down the route were so uneven and half the time there wasn’t a railing to hold onto for support, the noise from traffic was loud the entire route, it smelled really bad in places, the only benches were seated on the narrowest part of the route immediately facing trees and bushes, there was graffiti and litter all over and the little pond was covered with green scum and a lovely tyre thrown in there for good measure. I don’t know who looks after this woodland area, but it’s really bad. The only good thing is the car park which is clean and free of litter. That’s it. Really...
