Absolutely fantastic place! Wonderful engaging staff, beautiful gardens, an amazing collection of memorabilia/period furnishings/paintings and great facilities including practical toilet arrangements, a very well stocked gift shop and a lovely cafe serving yummy food suitable for all ages. The tours within the house were really friendly and informative…a lot of personal information and the “interview” technique was brilliant for the kids and adults alike!
House of Dun is family friendly and dog friendly. There are walks and a playground. Dogs are welcome everywhere except in the main house (they are welcome in the cafe and there are water bowls outside the door for them). The car park is shaded under the trees which is ideal for leaving dogs in the car while you view the main house.
We really enjoyed our visit and can’t wait to come back again (which is all the more impressive because it is a 1hr15min drive for us!). Thank you for one of the nicest family days out we have...
Read more#Autismfriendly By far the best tour we have had. We originally turned up on Saturday and were told tours are about an hour long, as the boys are Autistic we normally go around ourselves or have shortened tours, wasn't sure we'd take the tour. The lady in the shop made it clear, we could phone ahead, they could have lights dimmed, music down lower and that the staff would be accommodating. Just phone ahead, and they'd block off a tour for us. We missed the last tour on Saturday and came back Sunday morning. Was worth it. Our tour guide was great. She kept the boys engaged, and they lasted just short of an hour. Honestly, every member of staff we met there was going above and beyond. This lot needs to be promoted and needs to be training others around Scotland. We've been to a lot of National Trust places, so I can see the difference compared to others. That's only the staff, the place it's self is glorious, they've added an extra fairy garden, kids play area,...
Read moreVisited on Saturday for the Hairst festival. It was a beautiful day. Absolutely beautiful place to visit and the views are stunning. Myself and my husband were greeted with Scottish dancers, great to see the young girls keeping this up. There was some stalls selling delicious cakes that we bought and gins, vodkas that we enjoyed sampling and buying for Early Xmas gifts. We sat a while in the small square and listened to a young man sing, he was really good considering he didn't have a Mike to sing with. Went into all the little cottages with things all about the past which was really interesting. Also went into the shop and the sales lady was really chatty and polite. We didn't actually go into the main building but we will definitely be back to do that on our next visit. Also had a delicious 😋 hot dog from the van. Do you do this every year? It was a fabulous day so thankyou. Maybe needed a few more stalls and a few more...
