We had a brilliant time here today. The handler during the flight display was fantastic, especially when Zeus the Harrier Hawk decided to be a bit naughty and fly off. He did come back eventually! The patience shown by the handler was incredible and we all have our off days! Display times are 11am, 12.45pm and 2.30pm from April to October and it's best to get to the centre around half an hour before a show to look around the aviarys as the lenghts of show times vary, due to the birds behaviour and the amount of questions asked by customers. Give yourself a chance to see the other birds! There are a selection of European Eagles, owls, falcons and nesting swallows thrown in for good measure! There are toilets in the gift shop and also a cafe. We had lunch beforehand but we did buy some ice creams and souveniers of our day. We didn't book in advance but there is an option on their website to pay a deposit for your visit if you like. The fee was very reasonable - £9 for adults, £7.50 for senior citizens and £6 for children so we had a great day out for less than £40 for our family of 5. The birds are obviously very well looked after and the staff were only too pleased to answer any questions we had. There are deer in a neighbouring field which you can hear bellowing which amused the kids and we got some brilliant photos of the birds in flight with Dads 'big' camera. This was our 3rd visit and as always was...
Read moreCan't rate this place highly enough. For £7.50 we got an hours flaconry demonstration and we're able to look around at the many amazing birds of prey on the grounds at our leisure. The demonstration involved audience members being given a chance to hold various birds of prey, the instructor being patient and letting a lot of people get a chance. If your party includes wheelchair users, be aware that they may not be able to join in fully. Our party had several wheelchair users and some birds were reluctant to land or perch with them. This is because they see us as silhouettes, our body shapes, but don't recognise that of a wheelchair. Still, everyone there had fun and many got to have the birds perch with them. Set in lovely scenic countryside, its a beautiful place to visit. You won't get a data signal when there, or expect not to. This will return shortly after leaving. Many areas in the countryside in Scotland don't have a great signal, but they're getting fewer each year. Anyway, you won't need to be on your phone except for taking lots...
Read moreThis is our second visit and both have been excellent. It's a very laid back venue, with the staff being friendly and knowledgeable. They're keen to talk to you and answer questions and encourage you to hold and interact with the birds.
Once you've paid the entry you can stay all day and catch every show if you like, which are well worth seeing. Each show has three birds and they last almost an hour each! They have question and answer sessions and you get the opportunity to fly the birds yourself with small children encouraged to join in. Great value for money!
Also for added value, there appears to be a resident family of red deer living in the nearby woods. On both our visits the deer have wandered onto the field with us. The first time they interrupted the flying to demand food and the centre had to bring out buckets for them. Despite being wild deer they're clearly very comfortable with humans and will eat out of your hand.
The centre also has a small gift shop and cafe, albeit these are both quite basic.
Overall, very much...
