A wide, sandy beach which is a very long walk from the railway station I don't know the area to know if a bus is available. The walk is not suitable for elderly or infirm people without assistance. There are many historic harbourside attractions on the walk down to the beach which is all the more frustrating. The carters horse sculpture is particularly interesting as is the old ship inn.The ruins of the scottish industrial museum with its broken bridge is a long term eyesore A shocking sight unresolved for many years now. So many once great attractions in Scotland have been allowed to fall into disrepair and decay. We have an amazing country but we rely too much on whisky and misty mountains, making little effort for our touring visitors...
Read moreA wonderful place to go regardless of the weather. Certainly a gem of the west coast. In the summer it feels like you’re on holiday and there’s a lot of people coming from different places of Ayrshire and Glasgow to enjoy this beach, however the beach is big enough not to feel that it’s crammed. Great place to go for a walk even with your dog- plenty of people bring their dogs on walks here and sometimes you might even see a horse! Usually if the weather is good there’s an ice cream van at the car park before you enter the beach. There’s a few different car parks at different lengths of the beach. I suggest also checking the tide times before you visit just so you know how much width of beach you’re...
Read moreGreat Scottish beach in my opinion! Loads of space on the beach itself, almost all sandy with some rocks near the jetty at the main car park area, and there's a fair amount of sandy/grassy dunes. Plenty of parking, but can still be a wee bit tricky if it's really busy. Toilets at the main parking area, which are fine. Really good and massive area of grassed parkland right next to the beach with formal and sandy paths, a pond and wee fitness park thingy. The parkland also rises towards the beach in places giving a great vantage point for viewing out over the coast. Overall all very open, and just a very good place...
