A wide, sandy beach which is a very long walk from the railway station I don't know the area to know if a bus is available. The walk is not suitable for elderly or infirm people without assistance. There are many historic harbourside attractions on the walk down to the beach which is all the more frustrating. The carters horse sculpture is particularly interesting as is the old ship inn.The ruins of the scottish industrial museum with its broken bridge is a long term eyesore A shocking sight unresolved for many years now. So many once great attractions in Scotland have been allowed to fall into disrepair and decay. We have an amazing country but we rely too much on whisky and misty mountains, making little effort for our touring visitors from abroad.

Hailed as a 'tourist attraction' ??? well, it is a very well used beach by locals and tourists alike. We often nip into Burger King or Enzo's and then travel over to the car park where we sometimes sit outside if it's a nice evening, or just sit in the car with the windows down and listen to the waves. Very therapeutic. We've been for walks along the beach as well ( beginning to sound like an advert for a dating agency ??) But it is nice, gets you away from the telly and lets you get some fresh air.

Although it’s a lovely beach and lovely sand. There are a lot of rude, foul mouthed teenagers that ruined the beach with bottles and rubbish. We were so disgusted by the view of the beach after they had been and gone. Police had to check all of the kids belonging when coming off the trains. I think the beach would have been a lovely experience without the kids littering everywhere! Dispute the bad points, we still enjoyed the beach! Lovely view and calming early hours of the morning. Avoided the night as kids basically took the beach over.

The word grim comes to mind. Not for me, busy and quite industrial looking surrounds. Tide was in so not alot of wide, open space for all the dogs. Lots of wheelie bins on the beach which is good but also kind of disgusting as alot were overflowing. Toilets on site didn't have working lights in all cubicles and was pitch dark in the one I went in to, no toilet paper either. It was 2nd Jan so probably why it was so busy but no, I won't visit again. Wished I had just went to Troon beach which is much better space wise and nicer surrounds.

Enjoyed a great walk from Troon to Irvine beach. Toilets and plenty of parking available at Irvine beach for those arriving by car. Enjoyed a coffee from the wee cafe at the beachfront then a tub of the most delicious ice cream at the van. Nice walk around the small Loch behind the sand dunes and sculpture area with seating. Good day out for adults, kids and dogs.

There are plenty of wide open spaces for dogs and the owners. Problem I have it that some owners put the dog poo in a bag and hope that it will find it way to the bin. Along the beach, there is a bin every 10 yards. Otherwise a good place to visit
