Beautiful old gatehouse to what used to be Mauldslie Castle. Driven past this many times and wondered what the story behind it was. Shame to hear that where the castle once stood is now a sewerage works. The castle was demolished in 1934. What a sight it would have been. So many of the great houses of the Clyde Valley have gone now.

Quiet calm place. The water was a bit fast today for my comfort when I am with kids but the views and the birds singing it was amazing afternoon. We bought coffee and cake on the way at brookside garden centre and we had our camping chairs.

As bridges go, this one is...adequate! Crossed a river without loosing anyone or getting wet so it does its job exceptionally well. PS. It is also attached to a very lovely walk

Vandalism, fire raising and litter are the problems which spoil this environment. A fire being set in the hollow of a large Douglas fir tree, is an act of wanton vandalism which beggers belief. Those who leave litter everywhere are no better. There is even a fridge in the river, dropped from the road bridge above. The Scottish people deserve the environment they are creating, plastic bottle by plastic bottle, burger box by burger box...they are...

Our kids don't like to go out walking but if I mention Mauldslie estate then they have their shoes on before me. You can walk from here to Crossford if you are feeling like a good stretch or to the garrion burn which is roughly 2.5km through beautiful woodland with the river just beside. Great in...
