Why only three stars when everyone else is giving it five? Well, first I must congratulate the organisers on collecting in a vast amount of material which tells the story of life and survival in the front line with the all the bits and pieces of kit, weaponry, and technical gizmos. I can well understand the five-star reviews given by those who had an escorted tour by ex- servicemen who could pick out items to help them tell a story. But for the person who wants to wander around the museum at their own speed everything is still too higgledy-piggledy. Items need labelling, short descriptions and explanations et cetera. So my best moments were the fact sheets outside, on what happened to conscientious objectors and how they had the vote taken away from them, how the Germans improvised with steel springs because they had a shortage of rubber for tyres, how British access to cotton gave us this webbing which was lighter and easier to handle than German leather webbing. These are just examples but give you some idea of the stories untold in this museum. So for me potentially five-star but not yet. Still a lot of work to be done...
Β Β Β Read moreFantastic museum! I absolutely love it here and I will have to say you'd likely spend many hours looking at everything and getting the full experience or may need to split it into two days as there's so much on offer here. If you love military history this is heaven. The staff are wonderful and a good laugh to chat to. super welcoming, very good value for entry cost, great location, although no cafe there is always the offer of tea/coffee etc from staff. Many things here to enjoy and also one of the biggest military history libraries (I believe it's in the process of being catalogued). Accessible and just a great place to visit. The ww1 trench that is there to experience is amazing! So many things... please visit and enjoy....

The staff are very nice and welcoming however, the start of the museum was very cramped, you had everything from WW1 and WW2 squashed together, it was very busy. There was no information on the items to state what it was. Yes there was things to look at but it was way too much in a small space.as we went outside, we noticed it was fenced off alot. There was only couple of things to look at outside. And they wasn't brilliant, there was bit to walk through but nothing much in there at all. I will say i love what the staff are attempting to do here. But we will not be...
