Pool House is a very interesting place. Approaching from the road (which, unless you are coming by private yacht, is probably your only option) it is quite unassuming. Inside is another world. It is clear to see that the family that own and run Pool House have put an immense amount of care, effort and undoubtedly money in to restoring the property and it is a delight to stay there. If I was being completely honest then some of the furniture is a little tired, and the relatively new PVC windows slightly detract from the otherwise period features (however are almost essential given the property regularly takes a bashing from gale force winds) however the hospitality of the staff and family is second to none. The evening meal is above average, with an extensive wine menu. The bar is one of the best stocked bars I've ever seen. The breakfast was fantastic (a great selection including different fish options). I selected the the porridge "starter" served in a wooden bowl with cream and a "wee nip" of whisky followed by haddock, smoked I think. I look forward...

We went this Monday thinking it might be quiet but we only just got a table at lunchtime. As it was a bit of a grizzly day we both had the soup and toasted sandwich combo which turned out to be a bigger plateful than we expected as there was a lovely salad and coleslaw with it. We bought a couple of slices of the towering lemon Victoria sponge to take home for later. Lovely thick warming soup and a crisp tasty toastie-what more could you want?! We came back later that day for the house tour and the lovely lady had such a wealth of knowledge about the property and its people-we learned such a lot about its importance to WW2 and the massive social scandal of the time - so very interesting, definitely visit if you're...

I don't have enough good things to say about the Pool House Hotel. It is certainly unique and it is excellent but in so many different ways. Welcoming and homely, it feels like stepping into your own home. Except the selection of wine is far better, the food is certainly of a standard that I don't get at home unless my wife is cooking (!). And the views are to die for. With a limited number of rooms, I think its 6, luxury, en suite bedrooms - you wont feel overcrowded either. For most guests there, this is the ultimate secluded retreat. A small corner of luxury in the middle of some of the most remote and spectacular scenery in the world. I...

We stopped here on our way around the NC500. What a beautiful find! Lovely character and super friendly service. We had the soup of the day (sweet potato and Thai coconut (?)) as well as carrot cake - they were both delicious!! We didn't have time to look around the house and exhibition, but if the restaurant and facilities were anything to go by, I'm sure it would be delightful 😀

A small cafe situated in the Billiard room of Pool Houseis a nice wee diversion of the NC500 , the car park is not very big so be aware if its busy, lots of enthusiastic friendly staff served decent basic food for very reasonable prices but its the setting that wins, I had the cheese and chutney toastie while the gf had the cullen skink
