Loch Lomond is our location for holidays every year and you couldn’t ask for more breathtaking beauty all around you.
LL is a place of wonderfully diverse wildlife and if you’re a bird lover like me then you’ll be blessed with a stunning down chorus that continues throughout the day from the many passerines, corvids, raptors and waterfowl. After dusk you can also see bats though you’d need to be looking for them to see them. They roost along the rivers that flow down into the loch. I love to use my bat detector device to hear and see them by the river at Inverbeg, about halfway up the loch.
It’s also a place of activity on the water with boats, jet skis, paddle boards and so on, especially at the south end of the lake at Balloch. Plenty of opportunities but it’s a very big loch so water sports users never become invasive. They simply add to the life of Loch Lomond.
There are good places to eat around the loch whether down at Balloch, Alexandria or up the left side of the Loch at Tarbert, Crianlarich and other places. The right side has good eateries at Rowardennan across from Inverbeg and Inversnaid but you won’t get much further up the Loch by road.
You’ll never get bored with Loch Lomond, its beauty and character will charm...

The area of land is they are conserving boasts long walks through the woodlands, boardwalks over the marshlands, viewing points with plenty of bird feeders, pond dipping and at the end of the trail which is marked 1.8 kilometres is the most beautiful, quiet and picturesque beach where you can unwind.
The wildlife that we have seen whilst visiting so far is: deer, red squirrel, geese, all sorts of finches and tits and pheasants, as well as hearing a woodpecker and seeing a badger in dusk.
A couple of volunteers were waiting one night for snipe and said they’d be out in 15 minutes, so we waited and almost to the minute out came the snipe making calls to each other with their tail feathers which is something you can’t quite get until you hear it...
Read moreWe visited last Saturday and it is a really lovely and beautiful place to visit. A brilliant walk through the woods and down to the loch, with so much nature to see. I feel so lucky that we got to meet the awesome Pauline and Ben who were both so friendly, welcoming and incredibly knowledgable. They were a real highlight. In fact, after chatting to them, we have decided to become members of RSPB. Both Ben and Pauline could not have been more awesome. I believe Ben was very new to the team as well! This was very surprising! He’s a real pro.
We bought a few badges from the little site office. Pauline discussed Yellowhammer birds with us (amongst many others), so we got one in badge form. It’ll be forever on our wall as a reminder of an awesome day and meeting such great people.
Thank you so much guys! :) (We will definitely be...
