What an amazing place for a picnic and a wander. The sense of history is palpable in the whole area. The river is beautiful. Closed as a railway bridge in the 1960s, the viaduct is now a cycle path and footpath. The area is tranquil and calm. Access is down a farm style track across farm fields. It feels like you are heading into nowhere, but bear with it. You will come out into a small car park area from which access to the viaduct is really easy. No loos or amenities on site but there is a cafe in the village (around 2km walk from the viaduct) - not open all week so check the hours before you set off if you need this.

You can almost imagine in your minds eye the train driver crossing this impressive railway bridge. This bridge was built around 1886 and carried the Portsoy to Elgin Railway traffic. It really is very special to cross it on foot and get some idea of the detail and engineering. The other thing is you get a very good view of the River Spey as you cross. This is now part of the Moray Coast Trail and you can enjoy by cycling or by foot.

A great place to visit for a dog walk. A one mile walk there and a mile back from the car park at Garmouth. Stunning views over the water when crossing the viaduct. The walk can be extended by following the Speyside Way signage to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Visitor Centre at Spey Bay. This return walk is over 3 miles. The ground is mostly level.
