My wife and I travelled specifically to here from Paisley via the train. We had not visited for 18 years. The location is close to the train station but there is a good-sized car park too. There are toilets on site with a gift shop, but there is no cafe on site. However, food is available across the street at the nearby shops.
If you are interested if natural gemstones, this is the place for you. The main exhibition is housed in a former church building. To show the display cabinets and gem construction off at its best, much of the exhibition is dark. There are no floor obstacles or uneven floors but when walking around, care is required for young and elderly. There is an upper section accessible via stairs at either end. There is no elevator.
All exhibits are well displayed and have written information available, too. Staff were hapy to chat and have good knowledge. The shop is well stocked of a range of appropriate items for sale. Your admission ticket is reusable for...
Read moreFor such a small space they have packed in the exhibits. The information boards are loaded with facts and the whole place is well presented. On the negative side the reception leaves a lot to be desired. We were told they only accepted cash, information that would have been useful on the website and not delivered in broken English. Is it asking too much to be greeted when you enter a venue? I had to start the conversation and the one word answer was the tariff to pay! Want to know the difference between a five star and a four star review it's that and it's not hard, you just need to give a damn. By the way, they do accept cards in the gift shop and you can pay for entrance there if you can understand the receptionist and haven't lost the will to live to understand how that is...
Read moreVery interesting well displayed artefacts from all over the world. Well presented. Some of the individual pieces are truly impressive in their rarity and quality. Only plan for about an hour here though. Good for a rainy day as a stopover with the kids. Plenty of space inside. Nice shop with some really unique souvenirs to take away. Would like to see more on the displays around where and how some of the crystals and rocks are mined or formed. There is some information but with so many items on display they only covered a portion of the exhibits. Warning, judge your audience. I was dragged through faster than I'd like by a bored teenager not interested to read anything. My youngest loved it though. Well...
