Reflections on the Twelve Apostles' Stone Circle.

WALK THE CIRCLE

Twelve Apostles - large and small - some tall, some fallen

Walk the circle - count the stones - touch each one as you pass

One, two, three ... complete the circle ...ten, eleven, twelve

The last Apostle - but these stones trick - only eleven are there

WALK THE CIRCLE 2

Touch the first stone Which way will you walk? I chose anti-clockwise You may choose to follow the clock. How many stones did you count? Does it matter? It may have done to ancient man But why is lost. Birth to death, beginning to end, Life is a circle. The walk you take decides your life and fate. Stones stand still But life's clock is ticking, All you can do is take direction, You'll walk the circle anyway, Any way you...

As I have a keen interest in stone circles, I was eager to visit this one whilst in the area as its the largest one in mainland Scotland. Although it is not as complete as many circles I have visited (and reviewed) what you can't help but be impressed with, is the size and scale the circle would have been when fully built. Well worth planning a visit and just enjoying a walk around, listening to the...

The large scale of the Twelve Apostles stone circle means that it is difficult to take it all in. The variety of stones included in the circle decreases its impact. Nevertheless, this site is well worth a visit. There is a lay-by adjacent to the field surrounding the stone circle. It is free to park and visit the stone circle.
