Ah, the WDC Scottish Dolphin Centre! 🐬🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Located at the mouth of the River Spey in the beautiful Moray Firth, it’s a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Here’s a glimpse of what awaits you there:

Bottlenose Dolphins: The star attraction! Imagine spotting these playful creatures in their natural habitat—the Moray Firth. Scotland truly is one of the best land-based dolphin watching hotspots in the world. Historic Tugnet Icehouse: Take a tour of the 18th-century salmon fishing station. Learn about its fascinating history while surrounded by stunning coastal views. Wildlife Walks: Stroll along the tumultuous River Spey, keeping an eye out for ospreys, seals, and the occasional otter. Nature’s surprises await around every corner. Gift Shop: Browse the lovely gift shop—perhaps you’ll find a cuddly dolphin or a handcrafted treasure to take home. Café Delights: Refuel with delicious home-cooked food in the café. They even offer gluten-free and vegan options. 🍰☕ And guess what? Entry to the Centre is FREE! So, whether you’re a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or just curious, the WDC Scottish Dolphin Centre promises an unforgettable experience. 🌊🐾

By the way, did you know that the Centre is run by the charity Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC)? Their mission is to amaze people with the wonder of whales and dolphins while inspiring global action to protect these incredible creatures. 🌎❤️12

Staff are very friendly. The café service is very prompt, food portions are generous and by the looks of it is all home made. The tea for 2 is more like tea for 3 or 4. If you buy I e of the reusable cups from the shop you get a free hot drink with it.

The items in the shop are very good quality and priced well.

The ice house and dry dive tour takes about 45 mins and informs about the building and history of the fishing industry around the local area. Has a few videos that explains about the wildlife that lives on the river Spey.

Has a show and tell part which shows the difference between the 2 side of the dolphin/whale family focusing. This shows the difference between the teeth and how to identify them in the water.

In the final part of the tour there is a full scale model of a bottle nosed dolphin and this part explain a bit how the dolphins develop and live and the differences between them.

The dry dive part of the tour gives you a virtual dive experience of what it would be like to dive in the Moray firth. Also explains how boats and industry create noise pollution which can impact the way dolphins and porpoises navigate and communicate with each other.

Question are welcomed at anytime throughout the tour.

Would recommend taking this tour and giving a small donation to this worth...

We were hoping to be able to sit in the garden with a coffee but they are only doing carry out just now, but there are a few places to sit round about do not really too disappointed. The coffee and pieces were fine and the goodies in the shop were the type to attract tourists and make them happy. We used the facilities while we were there and though they were OK, I could not say they were handy for me with a disability, they were a little far away to try and walk yet close enough that it was a pest getting out the wheelchair. While we were there we saw a good selection of birds but none of the dolphins or seals, but on the way back when we were nearly at Buckie we came across some seals, and the dolphins were further out. Ah well, thats life, and they are wild so unpredictable!

I really should add that this place is well worth a visit even if the sea life is not to be seen. The nature trails and the peace to be had if you can find a spot to yourself makes it well worth it, and the other wildlife is awesome. If a little scenery, wildlife and a rest are part of your itinerary, this is the place. And we...

The WDC Dolphin centre is situated in an old fishing station at the mouth of the mighty Spey. This is an amazing hotspot for wildlife, with Ospreys and Otters in the river and mighty dolphins and wales in the sea. We took the opportunity to enjoy an excellent guided tour around the very impressive ice house. In addition to the history of the structure, we were also shown the bones and teeth of whales and dolphins and to learn about the local pods in the Moray Firth. Visiting the dolphin centre is free but the ice house tour costs a few quid. It’s well worth it as it also helps support the WDC. Big car park, level access, plus cafe and toilets. It’s a great place to visit, walk and picnic so add it to your itinerary. Electric car charging onsite too

This centre at Spey Bay is a real favourite place. I have visited many times over a 25 year period. The river Spey flows into the sea here with marshy wetlands on either side being home to literally thousands of birds notably the King, fish catching, Osprey. A Beautiful Osprey sculpture sits in front of the centre. There is an excellent tearoom and gift shop here. Soup and main meals are excellent but many people, as i did today, use it for coffee and cakes. The tearoom is adjacent to the old Tugnet icehouses from well over a century ago The views here are stunning and regularly dolphins can be spotted off the coast. Recommended is an at least 2 hour visit Turnoff from the A96 near Fochabers. Its then around 5 miles to the coast.
