My husband and I walked to the mill today. We had coffee to warm us up after the cold walk. We then popped up stairs to visit the shop and bookshop. Unfortunately due to a lunch reservation we did not have time to review the mill exhibitions or studios so zipped up the stairs and onto floor 3. I bought a book and then found myself challenged by the staff for not having paid the entrance fee. Apparently if you don't use the lift provided, instead of the stairs, and stay on floor three only, you aren't welcome. If this business wants to charge people to look at their small bookshop they should make this clear. There were no signs to say we could not use the stairs and should use the lift if we didn't plan to pay the entrance fee for the other floors. I had planned to return to purchase some gorgeous earrings on sale on floor three but have no wish to engage with their staff again. A shame not to be able to take back a memento from this beautiful part of the world. Please consider reflecting on how your layout, signage and way of dealing with customers may affect...

A lovely place to spend a couple of hours.
Good clean tea rooms with friendly staff. Dog friendly in the cafe but not in the galleries.
Interesting history of textiles aimed at all ages.
Fabulous, quality crafts to buy. Prices from a few pounds upwards. Brilliant for a special gift for an awkward person! There are ceramics, jewellery, woodwork, paintings and lots of textiles , wool etc. Beautiful just to look at! Many of the artists are working in their studios.
Make sure you visit the second floor. More beautiful goodies for sale but home to Stuart Wilkie. He is there Wednesday to Sunday. His wood cut and lino cut work is phenomenal! Stunning! And he is such a lovely guy who is happy to share how his artwork is created! He has the most beautiful work for sale ranging from cards, at a few pounds, up to mounted and framed pictures that he has printed on his 1868 Albion Press. Lots of wildlife but scenery too. Really worth a visit. We will be back when next in the area. I've my mind set on one of his...
Read moreMy wife and I looked forward to and put aside time to visit Farfield Mill, on Friday, 17th October. We arrived at 3:00pm. Upon entering the Mill, we were told that they were closing because of a special occasion that was about to take place. My wife and I had travelled a long way and, thankfully, due to my wife's persistence, we were allowed in. My emotional disposition from that point on however, changed and I felt as though we were an inconvenience. Over the years we have spent a lot of money buying rugs, jewellery and other items that are for sale in the Mill; but never again. To be made to feel so unwelcome and an inconvenience is not friendly. I was truly shocked, dismayed and upset by whoever was responsible for deciding to close the Mill early that afternoon, well before the scheduled closing time, and to refuse entry with a smile is seriously disconcerting and...
