This is a truly magnificent and intriguing small railway in the South West of England . The Railway touted as the most Southerly Railway in the UK runs for a very short route between Prospridnick and Truthall Halt and the journey last for a period of approx. 10 minutes where you can see beautiful lovely rolling Cornish Countryside and beautiful views of the surrounding area. You can enjoy wonderful walks of the surrounding area once you have reached Truthall Halt before then embarking on you journey back to Prospidnick and the route also runs through Trevarno Station. There are currently plans to extend the line beyond Truthall Halt towards Longer town, which is on edge of Helston itself and part of the route involves going over the old viaduct and they are trying to raise money to maintain the viaduct but also to get the extension completed. This is a really great cause and is very well worth supporting especially for a small railway. There is a small museum at the Prospidnick end of the line where you can learn about the history of the line and see some fascinating railway related artefacts connected to the line, which are in magnificent condition. At the Truthall Halt end of the line there is an old railway waiting room where you can further informative displays and a brief display about the extension to the railway. There is a host steam amd diesel locomotives to enjoy you journey and these include Peckett 0-6-OST No.2000 and Ruston & Hornsby Nos. 327974 & 395305. Another great aspect of this attraction is that the staff are super friendly and welcoming making you feel really valued and welcome to visit the attraction. There is a cafe selling a variety of food and drink at reasonable prices and also there is a gift shop selling a variety of souvenirs at reasonable prices. Overall this is a throughly enjoyable and delightful place to visit and makes for a very memorable and throughly decent day out. Definitely well worth a visit whilst in the...
Read moreLocation, difficult to find. If you didnt have sat nav you would kiss the small signs to the entrance. Arivel, there was lots of parking but I would imagen on a busy day would be different.
Staff, i counted at least 15 tjey all looked really smart in their authentic uniforms. There were very helpful and even gave out stickers to the kids.
Dogs are allowed on the train too. The Train, you could tell it was an old carrage style that fitted thr period theam. The seats were rally soft and comfortable but a little worn, and there were some cobwebs in the corners of the seats. If you have arachnophobia this maybe an issue for you.
Cost, we booked online and noticed they were offering a reduced rate due to there being works on the track but we were still charged the full price for the " full journey " online, I have emailed them to explain why this is and as of yet not had a reply.
The Journey, a little disappointed tbf. 5 min one way at 5mph. We stopped at one station for 15min but there was nothing to see or do at the station. The it was a 5 min return ride. There was no views other than the hedge row apart from a 30 yard gap 10yards from the platform you left from. Unless you're massively into trains ( old trains ) it's not really a family location activity if you have younger kids ( mine are 7 and 4 and were a little...

Now on my second visit, the line has been extended slightly and terminates at Truthall Halt. The train waits for 10 minutes, then returns.
Truthall Halt station has been rebuilt and there is a display in the station building. The Station Master was also on hand to act as guide.
Thursday is steam day and is being powered by a borrowed loco until William Murdoch has been rebuilt. This should be sometime next year.
A new engine shed is also being constructed at Trevano.
The round trip takes about 20 minutes, riding a composite coach with separate compartments. The guards van originally use, is still in service from time to time.
At the current temporary station there are three carriages; two buffet cars and the shop where you can pay for the train ride and also souvenirs, models and toys.
The cafe in the first carriage does a good range of drinks and hot and cold food. The bacon roll comes highly recommended.
Dogs are welcome, but please note the temporary platform has a mesh grid which may make it awkward for them to walk on. Likewise people with walking sticks or crutches. Currently there are two unisex portable toilets available.
Car parking is free.
Definitely one to keep...
