Have you been to the Isle of Skye? Considered one of the most beautiful places in all of Scotland, it is known for its rugged landscapes, picturesque fishing villages and medieval castles. For so many reasons we decided to stay on the island for a few days as it’s a playground for nature lovers! With its stunning coastline of peninsulas and narrow lochs, radiating out from a mountainous interior we literally had to stop on the road to take in so many different views as they were just breathtaking. Hiking is the best way to discover the beauty of the island and of course getting to the famous Old Man of Storr was at the top of our list. I can describe it as an unrelenting uphill medium difficulty (2 hour round trip) hike that is definitely not for everyone! Pretty challenging especially during the afternoon heatwave but well worth it once you reach the top. Also I didn’t wear a dress hiking as it would have been a nightmare but did throw it over my hiking clothes for the photo. We were lucky with the sunny warm weather as the view is typically covered in mist. Definitely recommend the hike but make sure to research and be prepared with water and rest as it’s not for the faint of heart! 📍TELL ME: Where do you think the name “Old Man of Storr” comes from: 1- The rock outline looks like an old man 2- Named after the Norse word Storr 3- Myth where a giant was buried & now only his thumb is showing 4- All of the above. Which one do you think it’s named after? #LATGxScotland #SimplyScotland

Came to hike this in the middle of winter in February. It was a gray cloudy day. I came prepared with hiking boots, waterproof pants, jacket, bag, etc. It began raining at the lower elevations which then turned into snow when we got to the top. Once at the top, it was extremely difficult to tell which way was the trail to the parking. Thank goodness I was with someone who had been here a couple of times before. But we still tried to use Google Maps as a way down. It can get dangerous if you get too close to the edge and don’t realize it. Other than that, although it was cold and wet, I enjoyed the views and the experience.

The Old Man of Storr is a total highlight! The walk up is beautiful with stunning scenery unfolding as you hike - the jagged pinnacles of the Storr are iconic and the views from the top are seriously amazing, overlooking the Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye. Practical perks: there's plenty of paid parking down below so getting there is a breeze, and they've got free toilets which is always a bonus. Sounds like a great spot for a scenic hike in the Highlands with some of the most dramatic landscapes Scotland has to offer. Definitely worth checking out if you're into hiking and breathtaking views.

A beautiful hike! We came early September and arrived around 8:30. There were plenty of parking spots at the time. By the time we got back to the car park around 10:30, people were having to wait for spots to open. The hike up was kind of hard for me, it was basically all uphill for a full hour. The first 20ish minutes are honestly the hardest, it got a bit better after that. The way down is a lot easier at least! The path was super clear and the view is worth it but prepare yourself for lots of breaks. From the end of the path you have a gorgeous view, although suuuuper windy up there so be prepared. We also noticed each day on the Isle that mornings were way less windy so another good reason to do the hike first thing in the morning. Bathroom facilities here are good. Have to pay for parking. Overall a good experience just know it’s...

The Old Man of Storr is definitely one of the must-visit destinations on Skye. This is among the most accessible hiking spots in the north part of the island, with easy access on the main road from Portree to the south. There is plenty of parking in a small lot as well as along the road. The distance and difficulty of the hike itself is not too bad - you can reach the base of the beautiful rock formations and enjoy the views, then return to your vehicle in approximately 2-3 hours. Unfortunately, there is no "official" trail for parts of the hike, so there is significant erosion on parts of the ridge. This is a popular and busy spot so you won't have solitude unless you visit very early or late in the day. Even so, the views are unparalleled and this is one of the places that makes this...
