This was my first visit, and I can easily say it was a pleasant experience overall. There’s ample parking and the entrance is easy to locate. However, the facilities could use improvement. The lines for the toilets were quite long, with only two available for a large number of visitors. The cafe was small, overcrowded, and the service was extremely slow, with a queue extending out the door.
The main grounds, however, were fantastic. Numerous trails wind through the area, perfect for exploring, whether you have young children or not. We went during the Halloween trail event, which added a festive touch and made the autumn experience feel a bit more special.
We spent just over two hours wandering through the grounds. There are a few spots to stop for food and drink, though they were also quite crowded. It might have been quieter on a non-event day, as it seemed very busy during our visit.
One aspect I found quite upsetting was the bird of prey area. The birds were kept in very small enclosures, which felt unfair to them and made for a distressing sight.
I’d be happy to return in 7-10 months to see the grounds in spring or summer, as they were beautiful in autumn. However, it’s not a place I’d visit regularly. The limited facilities and small cafe struggling to accommodate so many visitors are...
Read moreWhat a great place, took our Granddaughters for a visit and they loved it. They had set up some easter crafting activities which were free for the girls to do. Then on into the park land where they ran around looking at the various trees and plants. There is a largish play area that they also loved, but their best experience was the walled garden area that houses the birds of pray, owls and other birds including I believe his name was Raymond the Raven. When we looked round there was absolutely noone so the girls had free reign to look at the various birds but the best was Raymond who they got to talk and say hello. We were treated to a great flying display by the Falconer very personable and informative one of the better displays i have seen. Plus we got to see George and Mildred who are actually George and George. There is a large eating area and also a very clean and well stocked Cafe with great cakes to finish on. Staff are very friendly especially the falconer, the young man doing the crafting stuff and the ladies on the entrance. Was a little cold but will come back in summer with our other grand kids we also managed to see all the magnolia's in bloom before they get battered by the wind made my wifes day so all was happy...
Read moreBeen to Thorp Perrow many times and always enjoy it. We visited on Sunday to do the Halloween Trail, which has become a tradition now. Brilliant trail, lots of spooky things for kids to spot and a trail sheet to complete - although sometimes a little confusing to work out which scene matched up with the picture on the sheet. The kids also get a prize for taking part in the trail, this year it was a Halloween book - lovely idea! Lots of other parts of woodland to explore too, which is beautiful in autumn with the changing leaves. A great playground for kids too. Plenty of places to eat around the grounds too, although we only got hot chocolates from the cafe so can't comment on the food - looked nice though! Hot chocolates were ok, toppings were great (we had Halloween sprinkles!), but were a bit pricey for instant hot chocolates - kids ones seemed better though. Also visited the birds of prey centre too and managed to see two of the three displays, which were great as always. The keepers are very knowledgeable about the birds in their care and it's great to see the birds in action - especially the falcon! Would highly recommend visiting Thorp Perrow and if you've got kids, definitely come for one of their...
