Fantastic Historic Church in a beautiful village and the resting place of Kings , Saints and Vikings not forgetting famous cricketers too . King Aethelbald of Mercia and Saint Wystan himself were once laid to rest here . Also, one Ivar Ragnarsson, aka Ivar the Boneless the famous and indomitable warrior of the Great Heathan Army fame is said to be at rest here . WOW . Read moreThe crypt of this church is 8th century and therefore is one of the oldest continuously used places of worship in the country. It's a special place. The rest of the church is 14/15th century and nice enough, some interesting grave slabs on display and some Saxon era columns and cross shaft pieces kept in the porch. Read moreAmazing church with a lot of history. Recommend you go into the crypt. I feel they could have made more of the fact that it was the burial place of the Mercia Kings. Also, the link to the Vikings and the discovery of the viking burials 200+ and that one of those buried was thought to be Ivar the Boneless. Would have loved to see the burial mound, but no signs seemed to be situated in the private garden next...
