Travel through here nearly every week on my walk along the coastal path. I rarely go in either the cafe or the shop. Staff in the cafe surly and bring out a pot of tea in stainless steel pots.....a pet hate. How much would it take for a nice China tea pot and tea cups!? The shop? Well, it's expensive. Magnums 20% dearer than they should be. Beach below is tidal and you can't get to it at high tide. However, despite living all my life in Plymouth area I'm ashamed to say I have never sat on the beach to the right ( north ) of Bovisand. And I should have. It's a good family beach, very safe, which is good for swimming and floating around in boats. It's a suntrap too, situated between two hills and makes it perfect for having barbecues. Steep climb with steps to get to from car park to the north....ok for 3/4 yr olds with help. Car park 2 quid on that side as opposed to the expensive parking at Bovisand caravan park. Limited bus service too. And there is a cafe on the north side in the car park which sells cheaper magnums and tea in...
Read moreChoice of 3 Beaches. 1st has a steep hill down so good for wheelchairs. 2nd is a walk across the grass, which is also a nice area to sit and admire the veiws. Steps then a little climb across the rocks leading you down onto the beach. If the tide is high you will have roll up your trousers to wade through the water. This beach is quite seaweedy but good for children for rockpooling. Not suitable for wheelchairs. The 3rd is the most difficult to get down to. First are steps then quite a tricky climb across the rocks down to the beach. This beach is the smallest of the 3, has nice sand good for digging & sandcastles. Not suitable for wheelchairs. The lane leading towards all 3 beaches at Bovisands is narrow in places but has passing places. There is a shop that sells buckets & spades, inflatables, ice cream etc. Cafe for fish & chips, public toilets and a pay as you enter carpark. There are no lifeguards at...
Read moreIt's easy to get to, theres a carpark with toilets and a cafe with icecream. The beach is sandy with a fresh water stream running into the sea, dog friendly all year round and is safe for youngsters to paddle and swim. Lots of people jet ski and have paddle boats as no rip current. Shallow and when tide out beach is fairly spacious but it disappears quickly when tide comes in. There are two ways of getting down and one of them is suitable for a wheel chair until you get to beach where theres 3 large steps down, the other entrance is very steep with dangerous wooden steps this is the side where the cafe and toilets are the other side has a huge area to park and a large grassy area u can picnic on over looking the beach so good for people with mobility issues as theres a drop off point at the start...
