We had such a wonderful trip here last weekend. The trees are just starting to change colour into their autumn shades, so the woodland was gorgeous. We spent time chatting with the ducks at their pond and they were showing off their beautiful feathers. We went for a walk in the woods and had so much fun climbing up to the very top of the tree castle! We loved seeing the formal gardens and enjoyed the variety of styles in each section. We had a tour by Gary, who was a fantastic guide, learning so much about the history and experiences of King Charles when he visited. The house was spectacular and was really brought to life with the story. We also enjoyed the second hand book shop- we both found books to take home and add to our collection. Wonderful team here and a wonderful place to visit. The car park was easy to find and very close to the entrance with plenty of spaces. There was a delicious smell of cooked food coming from the cafe, but we didn't stop to taste it as we had just eaten a picnic lunch before we arrived. The toilet facilities were clean and well stocked and easily accessible. We had a lovely time and look forward to coming back in...

Absolutely fabulous! Picked this National Trust as a pit stop instead of services (as its just of the M54) and what a brilliant place it is! The lead-in road is a bit narrow and full of pot holes but there is ample parking and a short walk to the entrance! We timed it perfectly to take a trip to the cafe for an iced coffee (perfect for a heatwave!) and a pasty before joining the 'King Charles' tour. We were so glad we opted for the tour as the house has a fascinating history and had an important role in the preservation of the royal family in the UK. Cathy, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and entertaining and gave us an hour long tour and brought this incredible 17th century house to life. What a gem of a place this is. I instantly went online to buy a book which would detail Kind Charles 2nds adventures escaping Cromwell as I was so inspired! Thoroughly recommend a trip here and I recommend booking on the history tour when you get...

It is a historic gem that offers a glimpse into the region's rich heritage. The hall is a beautifully preserved example of 16th-century architecture, showcasing the traditional timber-framed style typical of the period. The interiors are equally captivating, featuring original woodwork, antique furniture, and period decor that transport visitors back in time. The knowledgeable staff provide detailed insights into the hall's history, including stories of the families who lived there and its role in local history. The surrounding gardens are meticulously maintained and offer a peaceful retreat, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Modeley Old Hall is not just a historical attraction but also hosts various events and activities throughout the year, making it a lively cultural venue. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply looking for a unique experience, this charming hall is well...

Fantastic place to visit full of history. This place is particularly lovely to visit when the weather is decent. There are some lovely meadows and woods with fantastic areas set aside for you to build dens, play games, or just sit and take in the amazing views. Charles II hid here while fleeing from Cromwells soldiers in 1651. The priest hole he his from and the bed he slept in are still there today. There is even a letter written by the king to Jane Lane (a lady who helped him on his journey from the house to safety) on display. The gardens are beautiful and the cafe is lovely. Drinks and food are fairly priced, and they had lots of lovely baked goods available. Parking wasn't an issue with plenty of spaces available. Be sure to talk to the guids on the way round as they are full of knowledge and stories! If you love history, or if you don't, this really is a beautiful place to visit
