As with everywhere the pandemic has played havoc with the work Jarrow Hall is trying to do. That said the mock up of Monks attempting to erect a building, gives a degree of insight as to how this could be done without the tools of today. It also opened my eyes as to how skilled the people were as nothing could be eaten, drunk, worn etc that they hadn't grown or prepared themselves. We did not use the cafe on this visit. There is a small shop however I think it would benefit from a guidebook, to take away, giving information about the experimental buildings, runes, farming, livestock likely to have been used etc. Well worth a visit in my humble opinion.

I wanted to like this place I'd planned the visit for a couple of months while I was in the area , on entering there was workman and scaffolding, through the main entrance the fountain wasn't working and had some dirty water still in it , wasn't as historic as I imagined, a few long house styled thatched buildings , some ancient breeds of cow, sheep , goat , horse , pigs nothing much else I thought there would be reenactors explaining how it was to visitors , you've got to use your imagination it needs more information boards or interactive boards , discount for people on benefits and your ticket lasts a full year , I won't be rushing back

Excellent place to visit. Just off the Tyne Tunnel so very easy to find. Plenty of free parking. Visited St Paul's church first... Lovely. Very friendly staff on hand ready to answer any questions you may have about the church or Bede himself. Good wheelchair access inside. Had a lovely cup of coffee in Jarrow Hall café served by really friendly staff then on to visit the Anglo-Saxon Farm. Nice, not to long a walk amongst the hens, sheep, cattle, goats and curly-coated pigs. All in all a lovely afternoon. Not too expensive and has a decent pricing structure with cheaper entrance for kids, unemployed & pensioners. Well worth a visit.

There was a warm welcome for us today at the Saxon farm at Jarrow Hall. Charming staff and volunteers went out of their way. This is a no kill farm - the animals get to live out their natural lives. Sweet to see huge shaggy haired pigs snoozing contentedly in the sunshine(and mud!). Breeds of cows, sheep, goats etc which are close to the type that would have been farmed in the period. Helpful re-enact guide gave us lots of information which brought the Saxon buildings to life. Mediaeval physic garden with thriving examples of medicinal herbs and food plants. Here there were madder and woad plants used for dyeing and food plants unrecognisable to us like good king Henry, summer and winter savoury and lovage. Again a knowledgeable garden volunteer gave us so much information. Nice cafe in beautiful Jarrow Hall with lawn with picnic tables. Adjoins a large park with free adventure playground for the children. Happy 3...

We managed a very enjoyable five hours here. The café featured some unique and interesting menu items which added a special touch to the visit. The honeycomb latte and the bee pollen latte in particular were pretty incredible!

The museum, though quaint, was well-maintained and featured an impressive collection of Middle Age artifacts, complimented by informative plaques and decals throughout. The staff are very clearly passionate about history and conservation.

The village was an immersive journey into the rustic lives of our ancestors, with a selection of specially selected farm animals more accurate in appearance to their middle age counterparts. We particularly enjoyed the reconstructed Anglo-Saxon buildings, which a lot of effort has gone into building and maintaining. A must-visit for history enthusiasts, animal lovers and curious...
