As with everywhere the pandemic has played havoc with the work Jarrow Hall is trying to do. That said the mock up of Monks attempting to erect a building, gives a degree of insight as to how this could be done without the tools of today. It also opened my eyes as to how skilled the people were as nothing could be eaten, drunk, worn etc that they hadn't grown or prepared themselves. We did not use the cafe on this visit. There is a small shop however I think it would benefit from a guidebook, to take away, giving information about the experimental buildings, runes, farming, livestock likely to have been used etc. Well worth a visit in my humble opinion.

Excellent place to visit. Just off the Tyne Tunnel so very easy to find. Plenty of free parking. Visited St Paul's church first... Lovely. Very friendly staff on hand ready to answer any questions you may have about the church or Bede himself. Good wheelchair access inside. Had a lovely cup of coffee in Jarrow Hall café served by really friendly staff then on to visit the Anglo-Saxon Farm. Nice, not to long a walk amongst the hens, sheep, cattle, goats and curly-coated pigs. All in all a lovely afternoon. Not too expensive and has a decent pricing structure with cheaper entrance for kids, unemployed & pensioners. Well worth a visit.

A favourite place! Great for history, education, family days, fun, picnics, coffee, and lots more! A very friendly and welcoming place with nice walks, farm animals, wildlife, interactive learning and a small soft play area. The fayres, festivals and events are excellent! Always interesting with something different and very fun! Lots of crafts, too. Ideally located by a park and historic church, St pauls. the hive coffee company is great, it serves tasty and healthy food, it is clean and environmentally friendly, cutting out disposable plastics and using card and wood for take out packaging.

What an amazing place this is! The staff are fantastic and the entire place is dog friendly. Reasons to visit Jarrow Hall: 🐶 the entire site is dog friendly, from the museum and gift shop to the cafe ⛏ some idiots recently attacked some of the buildings so they need the funds to repair the building. As if coronavirus wasn’t bad enough! 🐔 seeing animals and interacting with them safely behind pens is good for kids and dogs 📰 they don’t get as much press as Beamish Museum or Warkworth, despite being a place fun for all 🚊 15 minute walk from Bede metro station

A very pleasant walk on Father’s Day. Concessions for us oldies and tickets that last all season. The walk around the animals and Iron Age settlement are interesting, as is the inside museum about Bede and the monastery. There are inside and outside activities for young children. There was a bit of a wait for cooked food in the cafe but plenty of space outside to eat it. If you want to be a bit more refined and eat inside, then it’s better to book with the cafe. Set aside a morning or afternoon. You can easily spend several hours wandering.

Amazing afternoon spent at Jarrow Old Hall Saxon village re-creation, David our volunteer guide brought the place to life giving us a guided tour of the museum, his knowledge was excellent, open to questions he has a true passion for history and we are so grateful for his time, energy and enthusiasm. We were enthused by his character, delivery and knowledge, thank you so much David you are doing something incredibly important and you have added to our experience of the centre and to our lives. Thank you. The Lethbridge Family
