Fantastic facility.. First time users. The Woodland area is expansive (wear appropriate footwear) and well fenced in and also has an open field area for a good run so the best of both worlds for the dogs..they had a great time chasing each other and exploring together off lead in a safe environment. My only negatives (edited below) are the padlocks on the gates are a bit of a faff and they are a universal code so anyone could open gates up after you've entered & you wouldn't know (there is a vacant /occupied sign on the Woodland gate to try and avoid this). Our usual secure dog field has coded locks and each booking has its own code and it is set to the time of the booking so super secure but I understand that this would involve cost/changes to website/software to change)
Also found the joint car park very busy with different types of dogs including one dog off lead/escaped from a car which was not ideal (but not the Dog Runs fault). Our usual facility minimise this by staggering time slots for arrivals and departing. Would definitely book again, even though it's more expensive than our local dog field, due to the Woodland area. Thanks for a great experience.
EDIT Thanks for the update re parking etc. That was such a quick response! 👍 The other person in our group booked the slot so I didn't know parking was through the Woodland gate so next time we'll get it right! I have...
Read moreWe usually visit the dog park in Rainhill, but with the price increases and all the rules and restrictions created by the owner, it just doesn’t feel worth it anymore. A few weeks ago we came across Micklehead, but we’ve struggled to find daytime availability. We decided to give the 19:50 slot a try, even though it meant going in the dark, and honestly it was 10000x better, 5x bigger and only £5 more expensive then where we usually go which is half the size.
The woodland walk is huge, and we didn’t have to worry about the dog wandering off and us not being able to see her (which she did a lot 🤣). It gave her the enrichment she needed and was perfect for keeping her busy. At the end of the woods there’s a big open field to run around in too. We don’t usually book just fields, as after half an hour she tends to get tired and just lies down, but this was ideal. After a run in the field, she could still roam freely back into the woods and enjoy herself.
We’d love to come in the daytime, though it seems the weekend spots get booked up quickly, which is fair enough. The only downside for us was the lack of lighting in the woods. Luckily we had torches with us, but without them you’d be walking in complete darkness for an hour. Hopefully we’ll manage to get a...
Read moreWe booked the woodland run. Really good that you have to go through 3 padlocked gates to get into the actual woodland, I also liked that there is a vacant/occupied sign that you use so people know not to enter when it's in use. There are a couple of large potholes to avoid when parking and there was one area of the fencing we were a bit nervy about, in the top righthand corner of the woodland there seemed to be a bit of fencing that wasn't as secure as the rest and then an area that looked like it was just trees and cut down shrubs (I may be wrong and there could be fencing behind it that I couldn't see possibly) our dog looks for any way out and loves a challenge so that did make us a bit nervous. That being said she had the best time, she was exhausted afterwards and we will...
