We enjoyed our visit so much that we upgraded to a season pass after our visit. We live in Stoke on Trent and found it easy to find and navigate to the park, only taking 30-40 minutes to get there, so it is ideal for a quick day out for us.
The park itself is well designed, most of the enclosures allow you to walk INSIDE with the animals. This wouldn't be possible without the help of the excellent staff, who are always visible for both visitors and animals, acting as peacekeepers, dispensing knowledge and sometimes passing around food for us to feed to them. This gave us an experience like no other, by removing the boundaries between visitors and the animals you get a sense of adventure in a way that most zoo's cannot aspire to beat.
With plenty of places to stop and rest or to have a picnic, I would highly recommend taking a picnic with you and pack plenty to drink. Although there is a shop to buy food & drink, it is a little lacking in choice but pricing seemed fair. You cannot go wrong with a healthy homemade picnic and plenty to drink anyway in my opinion.
My only small criticism is based on the group of us visiting, and experiences may differ. In our group was Myself, disabled and in a wheelchair, my condition gives me limited strength in my arms and hands, we were hoping it may have been a little easier to navigate around the park but it was soon aparent it was not going to happen, so my Wife pushed me whilst keeping a sharp eye on my 8 year old Nephew, finally my Daughter and my 4 month old Grandson in her all terrain pram motored ahead. We had very few issues appart from some of the paths can be quite steep or uneven, whilst others are made of cobblestones or deep & fine gravel, which takes a little more effort for pushchair users and is difficult for the fittest of people to push a 16st man in a wheelchair. It just means next time I will have to bring my fold up mobility scooter.
In conclusion: Peak Wildlife Park, Leek, Is a great place to visit and the sad thing is not enough people even know it exists. If we do not HELP, put it on the MAP, we may lose one of the most interactive, informative and important places where kids can get up close and see these sorts of animals roaming free among them, sadly some of these creatures may become extinct within...
Read moreWe went on a Friday was not too busy. My 2yr old had a parent and child ticket as it was term time otherwise would have been extortionate charge way too much for children under 3yrs. Good choice of activities to do we loved all the animals good variety and all very clean. Ice cream is reasonably priced and tasted lovely and fresh. Lots of open spaces for picnics. Soft play smells and is run down and dirty. Bouncy castle was green after my son came off it his feet are now stained green still can not get off in the bath and stained his shoes. It’s good to see they have opened an outdoor park better suited to younger children now. We attended for the Easter “event” they had an egg hunt round the entire park where you had to collect eggs to win a price which was really fun however the “prizes” were awful we were so exicted to find you get a tiny mini mini egg cheap chocolate it’s the size of a mini egg you got one of those for how much they charge for entry that is not acceptable you get like 10p worth of chocolate. It is not inclusive either due to the size of the chocolate being so small and round I could not give that to my 2yr old as chocolate like that are huge chockin hazards to children under 5 as stated on most bags of chocolate like mini eggs ect and other brands so the fact they were handed out small round chocolate to young children is very dangerous . The next prizes up from that if you get a special egg the prize was a badge again not inclusive as what young child can walk around wearing a badge it is simply not safe they could of at least had a small crème egg or any other brand that can be broken up. Small bunnies chocolate? Could of been anything not one sized cheap chocolate that looks like a mini egg is appaling. Advertisers as Easter crafts and games , games were great but crafts were disappointing other than an Easter word search there was no actual “Easter crafts” like colour the Easter egg in or bonnet ect. We had a good day but there are many things that need improvement if they want to keep charging extricate amounts for families upgrades...
Read moreWhat a great day out! The weather was a big help as we had the first bright warm day of the month so far. The enclosures are well thought out, giving the animals their comfort and visitors a good vantage point to enjoy them. The "Walk with the animals" section is a joy. Feeding Wallabies was a highlight but the Meerkats drew us back for a double dose of fun. No Polar bears on view just yet but I'd have no hesitation paying to go again and in fact we already said we'll be back before we even left. Lots of picnic areas and benches and a space set aside in the play area where parents can watch their little ones have fun. Picnics are welcomed and gladly catered for. There are a couple of cafes and a gift shop though sadly quite pricey though the entry fee is pretty reasonable, but if you have kids partial to cuddly toys you may wanna give it a miss n just discretely send someone in for the badges, key rings etc for a keep sake which are also reasonable on price.
I have to mention the staff though. From entry to exit the staff are friendly, chatty and knowledgeable; eager to engage with visitors and share their knowledge of the animals and the park. They were a big part of making it a great experience.
We'd expected to be there up to 2 hours maximum but it was about three when we left. If you enjoy just sitting and being around the animals in the walk through areas you can easily add another bit of time.
If it rains they even provide a huge double wigwam to enjoy your own picnic under shelter, also kitted with tables and seating.
Well done Peak Wildlife Park on creating a truly lovely, well cared for, clean and enjoyable place for anyone to visit. Had a great time and will be back. Oh ...and we don't have kids so don't think it's just a place for families, it's a place for anyone who enjoys nature and being able to get pretty close to some...
