First time back here for a good few years. Very pleasantly surprised to see such improvements , outside eating areas being the main improvement. Lovely location for walks with the dog and family, outdoor games such as table tennis and table football, after which we attended the cafe. The intention was to grab lunch and then a bit of fishing with the family. Food ordered, minimum interactions with staff , but we put this down to being busy on the bank holiday. An hour after ordering lunch our drinks arrived, however no sign of the food. Hour and half ,still no sign of food . Politely asked a member of staff to chase up our order, but no reply. Waited another 20 mins asked another member of staff , same result. After more than two hours we have attended back at the cafe again politely asking to the whereabouts of our food order , only to be told that they had mixed orders up and attempted to pass us off with an order of food that the waitress had brought out on 2 separate occasions looking for the correct customer. The order was nothing like we had ordered , so we requested a refund and left, as did a few others at the same time. Plans down the pan , no fishing as we had to find lunch elsewhere, spoilt what had been a cracking day. In summary , lovely place to visit , really enjoyed the first half of the day , but let down by the cafe experience which in turn had a knock on effect to the rest of our plans as we had wasted 2 hours waiting for food which never came, and was forced to attend elsewhere. Possibly best to avoid the cafe at 1) busy times , 2) if you have any rough time...

They seem to enjoy wasting people’s time and energy!

We drove down to Roman Lakes to visit on (20th Aug), it’s not an easy place to get too due to the nature of the roads around it which are tight and possibly the worst for pot-holes that I’ve seen in a few years. Horrendous, and slight risk to damaging most average cars.

We have wanted to visit for a while and decided to make the trip, packing for the day. Visited the Facebook page and website, to get information prior.

After making the difficult trip… ‘Private Function No Public Access’. Sorry what?

You’re in one of most accessible locations possible and you don’t provide ANY prior warning across any social or website that you’re completely closed. Not just us, but plenty of cars were coming down and having to turn around (as well as walkers).

This made the already dangerous road even more or an issue and opportunity for difficulties, injury of accidents.

We pulled into the car park for a moment to work out what to do and a rude member of staff came out within about 30seconds to wave us away… ‘there are signs! We are closed to the public today!’

Awful already and frankly you should be ashamed of yourself a for unnecessarily putting people into difficult situations, disrupting weekend plans and being rude too boot.

Will never return, and will never...

We found this place by complete accident and it's such a lovely place as well.

Great views of the viaduct where trains regularly pass, a lovely set of lakes (which given the name of the area is fairly obvious) a quaint café and a small children's play area.

You can walk around the lakes but be aware it will be very boggy if it's been raining within the last few days ahead of your visit.

The ducks are friendly and will happily eat out of your hand if that's your thing.

My 3* review is due to the potential this place has to build on. For example the café doesn't take card payments, something which is essential nowadays and resulted in us not spending more money there as we had no cash and there wasn't a cash point locally.

Also, the children's play area is very small - but good nonetheless - consisting of a slide, bridge and climbing accessories. No swings or the sort of standard equipment associated with a children's play area.

There also needs to be a more substantial walkway for people wanting to have a trapse around whilst visiting.

Car park is massive and free. Staff were friendly too, those I interacted with and it appears it's a great little wedding venue.

The road down there is off-road and you'll likely think you've gone the wrong way, but if you do ever make it, it's...

The lakes and the Riverside walk to the waterfall was very pretty and lovely. The lake (only open last Sunday of the month 10am-3pm) and cafe is accessible, the Riverside walk less so, although there is a dirt road that maybe is, alongside the river. Smashing cafe with live music and home made cakes, soup etc. Unisex toilets. Plenty of parking, though the track down to it is a bit hazardous to suspension! Well worth the trip though. The viaduct is fabulous too.

Held our wedding at the Roman Lakes 2 weeks ago and we couldn't be happier! Everything was organised perfectly in detail and beyond our expectations, Rachel and her family decorated the venue beautifully and made sure everything run smoothly, all the stuff were friendly with big smiles 😊. The outdoors space by the lake is just amazing and all our guests loved it! Thank you again Rachel and family xx Ben and Iris
