Uley Long Barrow Constructed 5,500 years ago with a Burial mound dated at 3800 BC. 22 individuals (men, women and children) along with a Boar's tusk pendant. I've tried previously to find this beauty, but couldn't locate it last time. No idea why, it was very straightforward this time around. A lovely approach to it. Small chambers with limited depth but definitely a peaceful and charming barrow.
Neolithic burial mound at least 5, 500 years old. It overlooks the Severn Valley. The remains of 15 to 20 people from the neolithic along with various pieces of grave goods includung jewellery and ornaments have been excavated. A pair of boar jawbones drilled with holes were also found, speculatively you might consider these artefacts as having a ritual purpose. A Roman man was buried in the earth of the mound. Local folklore provides that the ghost of a Roman soldier has been sighted.

Arriving at Knapp Ln and parking at it's end (google's alternative to parking on B4066) you find yourself on the beautiful Cotswold-Way. Walk right (South-west) towards the burrow and you'll soon realize the path doesn't actually go up there. Keep walking. There's a small silver memorial plaque to Kenneth Smith on the left hand side of this path and if you walk on about 50mts and climb the hill it will get you right to the monument on top. Its a steep unmarked climb but it's short enough and a much nicer way to get to this stunning place.
The plaque says "What will survive of...
Read moreWe walked from Nympsfield Long Barrow. Google map showed nice 20 minutes walk not far from the main road - well, we got very close after which we realised we were in the valley 100m below :-) Lovely, adventurous and exciting walk that was, including climbing steep slope amongst the trees. We barely made it! As for the barrow torch would be helpful but phone's will do! (we've...
