Stunning golf course that will test all your skills and abilities. Pick your tee box wisely. Played here in late July & was able to book a reasonably priced green fee on their website in the afternoon. First impressions in the pro-shop were excellent and that is because we met the manager (apologies I have forgotten your name) who chatted to use and helped us with sorting out an electric buggy and giving help on how to play the first holes to get us started. Wonderful way to start the round, thank you.

Isle of Purbeck Golf Club has some stunning views on some great holes, so be prepared to get some amazing photos as you walk the course. If you are walking, be prepared as it is a big course to walk with ups & downs for all 18 holes.

The reason for 4* is that we were held up by a 4 ball of tourists who really didn't know how to play at a decent pace or understand that they were holding up play & should have allowed us and another group to play through. There were no course marshals to manage the pace of play. This was quite frustrating.

The course was dry and the greens were in good condition, we were lucky enough to play on a warm sunny afternoon, which obviously helped with the positive experience. There are plenty of interesting & different holes on this course.

No experience of the clubhouse or the restaurant as we were late finishing our round & needed to leave as soon as we finished. Looking forward...

NOURISHMENT & SUSTENANCE FOR BOTH BODY AND MIND - Only became aware recently, that the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club’s restaurant and breakfast “café” are open to the public. We had a cooked breakfast and very nice it was. Served by pleasant smiling accommodating "café" staff. The Receptionist on duty and the “Shop Assistant(?)” were welcoming. They were brief actions but it was a nice feeling speaking to people who gave their time and showed interest in what one had to say and made conversation in return or endeavoured to make eye contact and indicated a greeting. From the tables one can see the pleasing, fresh looking well-taken-care-of greens of the golf course; and beyond, Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island, etc. There were tables outside individually identified by tortoises(?) – sweet! Visually aesthetic vista, all of it. (Thinks) Joyful working on a site with changing panoramic views. :) The Ladies' Changing facility with wc. Popped in and came out effervescing chuckles. There where benches in the generously sized room with books, etc, covered with what I could perhaps describe as vivacious chintzy bohemian fabric; awoke a latent free spirit something in me. Should be nice and warm to sit on if only briefly. Cherishingly thoughtful and adorable! One just had to touch if one...

The views from the course were spectacular, sadly the actual condition of the course was in need of dire repair. With rabbit warrens littering multiple far ways, unkempt tees and uneven greens.

The service from the golf shop staff was very poor and incompetent. We arrived at 2:20pm ready for our tee time of 2:40pm, when arriving into the golf shop to confirm the booking. We were told that there was NO booking under the name given, however there was space available at 3:10pm if we wanted to play then.

The female member of staff in the golf shop told us that we had a booking on the following week and not on the week we had booked on. Then exclaimed that we had been changing our time and dates around a lot. Which we had not, upon showing a confirmation email sent from Isle of Purbeck Golf Club stating the correct date and correct time. She suggested that we play at 3:10pm because that was the only time available. Leaving us all with a feeling of an ingenue, unhelpful and unapologetic staff member.

Not a great first...

I've played both courses. The Dene course is a 9 hole course which costs £14 for 9 holes or £18 to play it twice i.e. 18 holes. It's fun and challenging in places. I would say it is accessible for all handicaps. There are some short par 4's which I love and some really long par 3's which I love slightly less 😁. All in all good fun and great value and some lovely views over the Purbecks and Swanage bay. The Isle of Purbeck course is a completely different kettle of fish. I would say you need to be at least a mid handicap to have much enjoyment around this very challenging course. Don't get me wrong it's great but absolutely brutal if the winds are gusting. The sight of your middled drive getting hit by a massive gust of wind and ending up 50 yards right in the never ending gorse...... 😳🤯 I play off 17 and really struggled in places, that said I still really enjoyed the experience and it's in the top 100 courses in the UK. Hence the £85 green fee.
