We visited Gauntlet Birds of Prey in Knutsford today and had an absolutely brilliant time. From start to finish, it was a well-organised, welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable experience for the whole family.
Parking is stress-free, with plenty of free spaces on gravel right in front of the park. It’s ideal if you’re bringing a packed lunch, as you can easily pop back to the car when you’re ready to eat.
On arrival, the staff at the entrance were warm and helpful, clearly explaining the show times and where everything was. The park layout is straightforward and mostly gravel paths, making it easy to get around and perfect for families. No muddy shoes to worry about.
The flying displays were the highlight of the day. The shows are packed with incredible birds, fascinating facts and plenty of humour. The team running the shows are clearly passionate about what they do and have a genuine wealth of knowledge, which they share in an engaging and entertaining way. You can tell they care deeply for the birds and really enjoy sharing that with visitors.
For the best views, we found that sitting on the left-hand side of the show area gives you the most complete view of the flying displays. There’s a bush on the right that can slightly block the view of birds flying to the tower. If you’re after the thrill of birds swooping overhead, then sitting centrally is a great shout. The benches are wooden and you’re asked to stay seated during the show for safety, so just something to keep in mind for comfort.
A really lovely bonus was the number of planes flying overhead throughout the day. It added to the spectacle, with birds and planes both filling the skies. The finale, where multiple birds flew in perfect harmony, was a sight to behold and honestly one of those rare moments that stays with you. A truly cherished memory for me and my family.
There were around 60 to 70 people on the day, and it felt just right. A great atmosphere without feeling crowded. I’d definitely recommend visiting while it’s still relatively quiet, as I imagine peak days could be much busier.
The play area is a lovely extra for kids, and there are plenty of benches around the park where you can enjoy your lunch in a relaxed setting. The gift shop has some nice souvenirs, though prices are a little on the high side, just something to keep in mind.
Overall, this was a fantastic day out. The shows were informative, funny and led by a team that’s clearly talented, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We learnt lots, had plenty of laughs and created some very special memories. A big thank you to everyone at Gauntlet for making it such a...
Read moreIt's hard not to compare experiences but sadly as a family of 4 we'd had better. If you've ever visited York Birds of Prey Sanctuary then this is where we made our comparison. Even though as a family we had a lovely Sunday out here, we were so disappointed at the lack of interaction with the general public and ourselves from the bird keepers and staff. One thing that REALLY stood out to us in our comparison was that when we visited York the handlers would walk around the site freely with the birds they would chat to you, ask you if you had questions and we all got to ask questions and get really informative answers. PLUS at York we didn't pay extra or any extortionate prices to touch or handle the Birds. We've even handled and touched Birds of prey, owls etc at local petting zoos/farms!! This really upset us all as we were completely unaware that we wouldn't get to be upclose and a little more personal with the Birds. The lack of communication and interaction just really stood out to us and in the shows I couldn't believe they didn't ask the general public a single question especially when there are family's. My children had so many eager questions to ask & I did too. Some of the information at the shows was repetitive too. The Birds here are so so well kept & we've no doubt that for many it's a very positive day out. We loved seeing the birds fly & just in general but it just felt like in between show times there was a real lack off effort or acknowledgement from the staff. I did find the sandwiches so expensive, a bit of tuna and bread £5-6 by the time all four of us had a small bite of lunch we had spent an Aldi top up shop on lunch it was silly really.
I hate leaving negatives but if it helps encourage a more positive experience for others...
