In common with Strata Florida Abbey, it was once claimed to be the site of the grave of the medieval Welsh poet Dafydd ap Gwilym, but this is one of the discredited theories of Iolo Morganwg. There are two lakes near the abbey ruins, which were used for fish farming to support the community of monks. The abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII and the structure was mined by the villagers for stone to build much of the present village and the chapel next to the abbey. Read moreWalked the blu trail. The walk is clearly marked from start to finish. The first mile and a half is a steep ascent with a few picnic benches on route. The path is well maintained easy underfoot. The path path meanders its way through open countryside then through a beautiful pine wood. The steep climb is truly worth the effort as spectacular views of Talley village, abbey and lakes come into view. A picture moment. The walk is very peaceful apart from a barking dog in the distance which echoes through the valley. Here again is a picnic table ideal for a break and take in the view.
