Statfold is a fantastic day out, particularly for families, but there is something for everyone. They have really thought about what children would want to keep entertained and as a parent it was one of the easiest days out we did in the summer holiday! You of course have the train museum and the train rides. The museum area is quite large jam packed with trains and several you can look inside, all beautifully restored. The train rides are great fun! Steam train ride to the fellumpa village and then a smaller mini train ride where you can get off and walk around the woodland area. The cafe is great, lots of choice for hot and cold food and drinks. And there is a picnic area if you bring your own lunch. They also have a gift shop. Then you have all the additional activities for children. The soft play ticket is included in your booking, it's one of the nicest soft plays around Tamworth in terms of quality, upkeep, and things to do inside, and all train themed! For older kids there are climbing walls and a climbing challenge as well. Then there was a room where children could do colouring, go on a little moving train for free, play with lego and a little train set. There was also a carousel outside which appeared to be free. They also had these small diggers children could sit on and move the gravel around. They have 2 outdoor play areas, and also outdoor games like giant connect four, hoops, and some other bits, and then inside they had a massive inflatable slide which also was free to use. We didn't use it but they also have a roller disco on site and you can book children's parties in the soft play. On the day we went (August bank holiday) they also had vintage buses including bus rides. Overall, an amazing day, and I really appreciate all the thought that they have put in to cater for children and families, it meant for a really easy and exceptionally enjoyable day for us as parents as well as a happy and tired out child by the end!

I visited The Statfold Barn Railway on Saturday 7th May as it has been on my bucket list for some time. I had a wonderful day and as luck would have it the weather was lovely. I cannot praise the railway and staff etc enough for all the events that took place the minature steam run past the wonderful NG steam railway plus tram service.I have been a keen railway fan from an early age from HD 00 TO 4ft 8in + and have travelled the world in the Merchant Navy as third engineer and was lucky enough to spend time in RSA and film 3ft 6in and 2ft Garratts in the 1970s which I have on my You Tube channel. I also used the cafe on site and had a baked jacket potato with tuna which was fine and the staff although busy were nice and polite. I cant imagine the effort and organisation it took to put the weekend together but they did a brilliant job and I would certainly look forward to another visit. To save a 250 round trip battling with HGVs etc on the M6 I chose the train and was glad I did as I arrived fresh and not stressed. The railway put a free bus on from the station but I missed it by only 5 mins so took a taxi as I did not want to wait 40 mins on the return I caught it at 16.10. I have over 30 mins film from Sat on You Tube so if you did not visit just see what you missed! Yours sincerely Brian.R.Eastham

We arrived at 12 noon. The soft play area supposedly included in the price was closed for a private party - this wasn't mentioned on the website. The museum is nice but of little interest to kids. Two train rides were open, but only running once per hour. The food menu offers a meal deal, but there's a "weekdays only" exclusion that's in illegibly small print. And the service was slow, probably because there was only one person trying to serve at the counter, clear tables and prepare food. The day was largely saved by a bouncy castle, a large inflatable slide and small kiddie's roundabout. I've visited on busy days with the railway in full swing; the nicest part of the site (around Statfold Junction) is closed off on "standard days". A lot of investment is going in to the site, but the "standard day" offering isn't good enough if some of the headline facilities are closed. Hopefully, the offering will continue to improve; this could be really good. The gents loo near the bar has two paper towels dispensers, both empty. Next to them is the solitary hand dryer, placed so that users will get clobbered by the door when anyone comes in. Oh, and the website needs to improve; it needs to explain what's on offer rather better. The booking engine could be better integrated, too.

We’ve been to Statfold several times over the past 2 years, and we’ve never been disappointed by an event they’ve put on. Since December, they’ve noticeably made several improvements to the venue- such as better car parking, more picnic tables outside (including moving the old train carriage outside to add more covered areas outside for picnics-great move!) and the addition of the new soft play area.

We were at the bank holiday dinosaur event from event open to event closing and it was a wonderful day out. We did everything on offer: multiple trips on the steam train; watched the dinosaur show (which was fantastic- the ‘rangers’ stayed in character all day and were very knowledgable and engaging); the swing chair ride; the VR jungle ride; decorating the dinosaurs; giant connect four; face painting; explored the museum; completed the dinosaur footprint hunt; went on the giant outdoor bouncy slide; went on the play park; a 45 minute soft play session and we met all the dinosaurs who came outside for photos at various points throughout the day. My little one had an amazing day and hasn’t stopped talking about it since. The dinosaur show was a particular highlight. My little one was completed enthralled for the entire 30 minute show.

The only things I’d suggest (if Statfold are reading this) is that it would be nice if the steam train used the full length of the track, like it used to, to make the train journey a little longer and/or an appearance of the tram. The soft play is a brand new addition and is absolutely fantastic- however there are noticeable teething problems. I’d say there needs to be a 10 minute transition between each session, as we went in 5 minutes late due to the session before running late, and there seemed to be a delay on people entering the clip and climb section if they wanted to do this and there seemed to be people from the session before us still waiting to go on the clip and climb part as we went in. Maybe this should be booked separately from the soft play to prevent transition issues? However, I’m sure they’ll iron out these issues as time goes on- it is a brand new part after all.

Well done Statfold....

First time visiting here and I did expect more. We visited on a Saturday and it was great to get there first thing as it wasn't too busy.

It is unclear and confusing when it comes to booking the soft play as well as your ticket in as we booked to get it for 10am but the soft play was for 10am too. We didn't realise this and missed the slot but as it wasn't busy we were able to get in anyway. Girl on the desk there was lovely and helpful.

The soft play is great and varied for all ages. Bigger than it looks.

We did go for the locomotives tho and other than the round house...that was it...unless I'm missing something. It wasn't clear that you were able to walk amongst them but we did it anyway. There was an upstairs exhibit which was closed as there was an event. The space where they added a bouncy castle by the cafe seemed a bit wasted...not sure what else is there but is it always clear for an event? I was exited to see the outside as it really gave a time period vibe...however the only place open was the "sweet shop" The outside got me excited as it looked like a proper old skool shop. However going inside it was a gift shop with pre packaged bags of sweets you get at all attractions.

The train ride was fun but again it wasn't clear that you get off to watch it turn. We just stayed on the train....wondering what was happening...is it just me? Did we miss a huge part of the exhibits? Probably wouldn't...
