Perfect for everyone and so much to see. Very good paths around the lake area, pushchairs, mobility scooters and similar should all be fine, it was dry today so not sure what they would be like when raining. Plenty for kids to see and do as well. We explored the land beyond the lake following the Heritage Trail, such a mix of woodland, pine woods, fields, country lanes, canal everything! The Canadian WW1 memorial is well worth stopping at if you pass it, so tastefully done and a fascinating story. The pine woods are also worth a look, they are like something out of a movie set, the colours make it look like another planet ( well we thought so 🙂) Some good spots for dogs and kids to paddle in that are well away from the lake so the wildlife isn't disturbed. There is so much wildlife to see, we even saw a Mandarin duck which we've never seen before and didn't realise they were now in the UK! The best bit was waiting for us at the end - Fuelled By Caffeine! So many fab drinks, cakes, traybakes and similar. We opted for ice cream tubs which were local (Plymouth) and lush with the nice touch of a flake to go with them. Dog ice cream too, always a winner! Plenty of parking, could imagine it being a bit tricky sometimes if it's very busy but really well laid out and well priced, you can pay by app (Ringo) or contactless. There are signs about phone signal but we had no problem and the rangers office is nearby if...
Read moreWork is still going on (August 2024) at Stover Country Park. The ponds are being cleaned out and new buildings are being built where the old visitor centre used to stand. There's plenty of car parking via a mobile phone app. Not too expensive.
The area under construction is fenced off whilst there are several pontoons with pipes and pumps dotted around the lake.
There are some lovely walks around the country park but some areas even on the far side are undergoing work.
There's a nice little cafe close to the old visitor centre which serves both hot and cold drinks, good choice of coffee plus a luxury hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream. Hot and cold snacks including cakes and savouries are also available. Very nice.
The country park is right next door to the Stover Caravan and Motorhome Club site plus it's only just off the main A38 Devon Express Way, so a convenient place to stop and take a break for a few hours.
The park is very quiet with some lovely walks, that are level and mainly gravelled, so an easy walk for most.

Read moreWhy on earth are you chopping more lovely old trees down. Leave the Douglas Firs alone, they are not causing any harm and this part of the park is the most aesthetically pleasing with it's grand old trees. Since when have pine trees been bad environmentally, they cover much of the planet? Its going to look a horrible mess for years and for what, a bit of extra light, this part of stover has been heavily shaded for decades without causing a problem. You get some Lottery funding and decide to do this, you guys just need an excuse to make yourselves look busy. The area of pines you cleared to create the ponds to stop A38 run off, at huge cost has made little difference and now you have a problem with silt in the lake because of a few pine trees. People visit the park because it looks nice, and it makes them happy, but as you just keep butchering it, I won't bother you are ruining it for visitors. I see the bushes around the lake you hacked down because of shade have all grown back. Why don't you just fell the whole park and start again, maybe my great, great grandchildren can enjoy it. The ecosystem is fine as it is, I really don't know why you need to keep messing...
