Toome canal walk is a beautiful experience. It comprises of a pathway alongside the canal itself and over the far canal bank one has views of the river Bann. The pathway is roughly around a mile in so in length and begins in the outskirts of Toome village and ends with spectacular views looking over Lough Neagh and the Sperrin Mountains. There is a small tower with a spiral walkway to the top to enhance your viewing experience. Along the way you will witness great varieties of Birdlip including kingfishers, cormorants, various songbirds and, if you're in the right place and time buzzards. There is a great cafe called the Lock keeper's. This is housed in the original keeper's house. It was strange to remember 40 or more years ago when I used to visit here when it was a home to the keeper and his family. The service is great and the fare is varied and great. Take your family for a walk, let them see the working lock and the birdlife, you won't regret your...

5 Stars – A Hidden Gem of Tranquility

Absolutely loved the Toome Canal Walk! It's a peaceful, scenic trail perfect for a relaxing stroll or a leisurely bike ride. The path runs alongside the water with beautiful views of the canal and surrounding countryside. It's well-maintained and easy to follow, making it suitable for all ages. One of the highlights is reaching the end of the trail, where you're rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of Lough Neagh—breathtaking and well worth the walk. I also enjoyed the calm atmosphere and the chance to spot local wildlife along the way. A great escape from the hustle and bustle—highly recommended for anyone...

I found the Canal Walk very peaceful & enjoyable. I met a few people on the walk who were very friendly & chatted away making me feel very welcome to their town. I brought my 2 wee dogs Lucy & Elvis on the walk & they loved it especially having the freedom to run about without their leads. I would highly recommend anyone going on this lovely relaxing walk as I don't think you will be disappointed. My wee fur babies were exhausted after their walk & had a good sleep when...

Toome Canal Walk is a great 40 minute walk back and forth and has a super viewing point of Lough Neagh with a small tower that's wheelchair accessible. All free and there's some canal history you can learn and a poster of the full collection of birds that live in the Lough. There's a small car park at the entrance which holds about 18 cars. Halfway up there's an outdoor gym but it's in need of some repairs or at least oil for the joints.
