Well this was a different day! Stuart is certainly passionate about his subject, knows archaeology and has joined many digs. And he loves his field /lost City of Trellech! You do get to do some digging which gives you a good idea of the boring grunt work that archaeologists face. And the aching backs and sore knees if you're not used to it! Stuart shares a few finds at the end, but was a little patronising in delivery. Think he may have been disappointed at our lack of knowledge?! But we were paying for an experience not a lecture. Don't expect any facilities either. Take all the refreshments you're going to need, and be prepared for a walk to the local pub for the loo (it's not very far at all) or brave a not very pleasant portaloo. Overall we were a bit disappointed - considering this has been going on since 2004 there is still little to see at the site and there's been backfilling of parts. If you've wanted to dabble at a dig... Go for it. But I'd say temper your expectations!

Really interesting excavation site, and easily accessed from a gate off the road. Subject to funding it would be great to see an interpretation board to highlight the great archaeological work undertaken here and the history of the area.

Good for a small dog walk, with dogs on leash. Park near the church on a side road. Close to Harold’s stones too

We had a fantastic day with Stuart. Highly recommend this experience. We started the day with no knowledge of archaeology and left with far more understanding thanks to Stuarts incredible depth and breadth of fascinating knowledge. We spent a few hours digging and found some interesting finds. The facilities are indeed rustic but definitely more comfortable than in medieval times! Lovely pub up the road for dinner. Stuart also gave us great recommendations for local castles both medieval and Roman which we explored the next day. Two days isn't long enough to explore this historical area but the Lost City of Trelleck was a great...

Lost over £100 buying gift vouchers for a Christmas gift for relatives. A few months after purchase a message went online saying the dig was closed. Repeatedly asked for a refund but my emails were ignored until someone finally responded on Facebook and I was promised a refund. Got in touch with person in charge who ignored my emails until I used the word 'court' in the title after which they responded immediately. Was all made out to be my fault (despite promises of a refund) and I was advised there was no money to...
